MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Sep 24, 2008 Thanks to JCB for the bomber. Clear amber color with a large head. Aroma of pears, apricots and biscuit with a little banana and yeast. Spicy cloves, especially at the finidh. Yeastier as you get near the bottom of the bottle. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 22, 2008 Yellow, big white head. Very yeasty, fruity aroma. Flavor is also yeasty, with notes of banana and bubblegum, plus some citrus, too. Maybe clove, too? Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA Sep 22, 2008 fluffy gold, fluffy white head, smooth fresh palate. definite bannana yeast presence. good stuff. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Sep 19, 2008 Bottle courtesy of durhambeer: Pours a transparent deep golden bronze with a large, airy, clingy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet biscuity caramel malt, some clove and light fruity esters along with a doughy Belgian yeast strain. Body starts with good full sweet maltiness and a mild hop bitterness with pleasant clove spice before a slightly drier yeasty finish. An authentic and enjoyable Belgian strong ale. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Sep 17, 2008 (22oz bottle, thanks wilkie) Large white head atop murky apple cider body, nice lacing. Aroma is medium sweet, orange, some candi sugar, pepper, pineapple syrup, light yeast, wheat. Taste is moderately sweet, orange, mango, peach, some candi sugar, light pepper. Medium body, some dryness in the finish. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 10, 2008 Draft at some hotel in Durham.
Pretty nice belgian ale, light in color with lots of lace, heavy on the fruity estersbut generally quite enjoyable and considerably better than what I expected to find on the hotel tap. Reasonable yeast spiciness, well concealed abv. Enjoyable.
JCB (1713), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 22oz from Parker & Otis, Durham. Very clear golden pour, with faint hints of amber in there. Lively carbonation, decent head. The aroma is crisp and hoppy, but also sweetly candied. A nice, moderate mouthfeel, ever so slightly slick owing to the sweet malts. But the finish is dry, hoppy, and a touch spicy. Nice one from the locals in Bull City. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 18, 2008 Hazy tangerine pour and a thin off-white head. Bananas and spice on the nose. Lots of yeast and fruity esters. Slightly balanced with subtle hints of complexity
