COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This strong amber ale has a strong malt presence that holds this brew together. IBUs of around 90 balance the beer which is dry hopped to add an invigorating citrus and floral aroma that lingers to the end while complementing all that malt.

3/15/14. Draft at Pint and Plate. Pours a dark copper with a minimal head and nice lacing. Light citrus nose. Surprisingly strong hop presence for an amber. I'm not getting the malt balance I'd like to see. A bit thin on the mouth for an imperial. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint at Tylers apex. God aroma sweet. Citrus streak. Cherry, tad hazed, reddish orange color mice initial head, faded to a ring. Spotty lace, sweet bitter flavors. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, sweet bitter finish that fades. Has moments. Aroma and flavor have a cherry orange mix that is nice, yet tad medicinal. Deceptive abc. Fun to try, probably not reaching for another.

On tap at Rue Cler, Durham. Nice bright red pour, with an inviting creamy head on it. Strong hoppy aroma was a pleasant surprise, some biting spice and intense citrus. Balanced and fairly understated malts at the core, warming but not heavy or overdone. Perhaps just a bit too sweet in places but that’s what you get with an ASA. And overall it worked as a nice balance of bitter and sweet.

Burnt red colored pour with a large off-white head. Aroma of caramel, spicy hops, brown sugar, and apples. Nutty taste with caramel and spices. Full bodied and tasted a lot like a barleywine.

Bottle from nearbeer. Thanks for this one. Poured a murky orange brown color with a soapy off white head. Smelled of caramel, light husky grain, and orange. Medium bodied and slightly sweet with mild to moderate bitterness. Carbonation was pleasantly on the low end of the spectrum. I tasted caramel, toffee, light alcohol, subdued pineapple, and citrusy hops. Pretty good stuff, very much like a double IPA.

22oz. bottle from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham. Cloudy cranberry color with a large off-white head. Nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, spicy hops, brown sugar, tart cherry. Nutty taste with caramel and very spicy and bristly hop notes. Lemon and brown sugar notes as well. Full bodied and very much like a barleywine.

Bomber. Everything about this beer seemed like an average barleywine...amber color, sticky sweet smell mixed with alcohol, syrupy flavors with a huge alcoholic finish, and an exorbitant $11/bottle price tag. Unfortunately for an 8% alcohol beer that didn’t even have to leave the county to reach my house, that’s not really a good review. If this stuff were available for $7 a sixer, I’d certainly buy it again as it was an interesting beer, but for that cost I can get some much smoother and far more interesting beers.

I held out on this for almost a month, because of its 10 dollar price tag. What a disappointment. Cloudy amber pour fluffy white head. Hoppy aroma. Hoppy flavor, not enough malts to balance it out. a little warm on the finish

Red colored beer with a small off-white head. Sweet apple juice like malt in the aroma with some strong piney presence. Bad mix of flavors. There’s too much sweetness upfront and it clashes with the bitter finish. Not enjoying this one.
