Commercial Description:
Rauchbier (smoked beer) has a distinctive smoke flavor imparted by using malted barley dried over an open flame. This is a special beer, unique to NC, that Rick has been working on for a while. It is light in color and body, with a pleasant smokey nose and hints of earth tones in the finish. This beer measures in at 4.4%.

WBF. Pours a translucent pale yellow with a one finger white head. The nose shows some hay, mild smoke, dirty barnyard character. Flavor is smoky, musty, taste some hay, also a barnyard element. Shows a soft carbonation on the palate.

Sampled on draft at the brewery. Pours a clear pale yellow color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Very earthy aroma with light smoke, caramel and leafy hops. Taste is earthy notes, smoke and caramel. Medium bodied.

Gold pour with no head. Aroma of smoke and wood. Flavor was strong smokey, same in the aftertaste. This would be better paired with food probably, but not so great by itself.

Cask pour from Broad Street Cafe. Pours clear golden with no head. Still as a pond. Looks like a flat lager. Body has a bit more heft, but I might have been fooled by the room temperature pour and stillness. Nose of sweet grains and slight smoke and charred wood. The smoke is subtle, but it comes out just a bit more on the taste. Would have liked more smoke, but this was decent... I’m always a sucker for a cask...
