Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Gent, Belgium June 2013 consumed at home 08.07.13 in company of Casey, Traci & Loz I hadnít realised that this was a Tripel until I poured it, seems rather strange to age a Tripel in this way. Pours nice, slight haze but golden with large billowing white head. Aroma is a bit boozy with some vanilla and yeast showing. Taste for me just isnít right at all, I guess that there is a decent Tripel before this experiment but it just comes across as a boozy confusing mess. You can certainly pick up the barrel ageing in the mouth but Iím not a fan. Nice packaging, poor beer. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov11 3.0

Didnít take proper tasting notes. Tap. Sweet, boozy, warming, didnít find this too interesting. Perhaps when I pay more attention Iíll appreciate it more,

Sample at Essen Kerstbierfestival 2014, shared with Mathieu87. Found back notes that where lost. APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, nice stable white head. NOSE: oak, caramel, fruity, some alcohol. TASTE: oak, caramel, fruity, some alcohol, nothing special though. Way too expensive normally, glad I could try this at a festival

Aroma: Nothing special, smells like a lighter version of a regular triple beer Appearance: A murky amber colored triple Taste: Triple and cognac; honey/flowers/fruit/bitter/sweet Palate: From the moment this bear enters your mouth till the moment it leaves it, you will notice many different things. Apple, cask, lemon, freshness. Thatís the aroma! Slightly cloudy light yellow colour. Starts with a big white head. Cognac like taste with lots of alcohol. Dry, champagne like flavour with apples and pomelo. Pretty ok.

Opaque orange brown beer, slightly opaque. Foamy head.Smell is lots of vanilla! Some wood and hints of peaches, pears. Maybe some honey and caramel, but the vanilla dominates.Taste is vanilla sweet, bitter, with an oily feel. Fizzy. Slightly alcoholic. Bit too sweet for me, but it works with the vanilla and the wood.

Cognac barrel aged Kasteel tripel from a luxurious 75 cl champagne bottle; 2013 vintage. Moussy, egg-white head consisting of fairly large bubbles and therefore dissipating rather quickly; colour is a slightly hazy, warm íold goldí with quite strong fizz. Spicy, sweet and alcoholic aroma of orange liqueur, fair amount of cognac indeed, banana, powder sugar, cooked corn, cider, honey, vanilla-like wood tannins, caramel candy, canned pineapple slices, white pepper, soap, ginger powder, rubbing alcohol. Fruity onset, peach, pineapple and sourish gooseberry touch, strong and tingling carbonation, honeyish sugar sweetness cloying to the teeth a bit; bit corny and caramelly, sweetish middle phase, quite light in body seen the high ABV, with spicy notes and the lingering sugar sweetness playing above it. Alcohol becomes increasingly apparent towards the finish, as a sharp, bitterish, astringent effect, lining the whole mouth cavitity as if youíve been drinking some very strong liquor. A clear and quite strong cognac taste remains, along with woody tannins and lingering sweetness. I donít like the regular version to begin with so my expectations of this were low; it shares its dull and cloying sweetness and alcoholic profile with the regular tripel, with the alcohol even reinforced here considerably by the cognac presence, which is everything but subtle. Should be a lot more refined and less alcoholic, but fortunately I like cognac and the woody tannins lingering in the mouth balance out the sweetness a bit, so as a whole, this is still more or less enjoyable. But I did find it difficult working my way through the whole bottle, the aroma is clearly more promising than what the taste delivers, and it is definitely not worth the exaggerated price of 23 or so euro I paid for it - I do not recommend spending your money on this.
