Plenty of roasted malts and rolled oats produce a rich and complex traditional stout with hints of liquorice. The bitter malty flavours are enhanced by a moderate bitterness and a rounded late hop aroma is provide by East Kent Goldings.

On cask @ SIBA BeerX - Deep dark body (lights were dimmed at the time, so no idea what hue it was), looks like a thin beige top. Nose is sweet chocolate and roast nuts, the taste however is watery and very bland. Shame really, very thin effort.

Cask @ Old Gate, Hebden Bridge. Black with an off-white creamy head and a mild roasted aroma. It’s more like a porter in taste with a malt-hop character.

Bottled. Very dark brown-black with a small, light brown head. Aroma of coffee and vanilla. Smooth in the mouth with coffee and cream flavours. Very good, but a touch too thin and lacking a little in depth of flavour.

Gravity at St Albans Beer Festival 2013. Hmm I bumped into a friend while drinking this so no notes taken. It was dark (funny that, being a stout), moderately bitter and roasty, a little bit fruity, nice and drinkable but not awesome. Possibly the worst beer review ever, I’ll retaste this at some point!
