waolsen (992), Littleton, Colorado, USA Aug 22, 2008 bottle. black pour with thick foamy tan head. roasted malts, figs and raison, hints of coffee in aroma. sour, strong liquorice, fruit. sourness leans toward offensiveness. I’ll give this one another try some time but not very impressive. Crosling (1658), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jun 5, 2008 Black color with brown edges. Assertive nose of black licorice, heavy roast and dark fruit. Well balanced malt character, with lots of taste. Especially impressed by the finish, which lingers well with hints of mocha, hops and peanut brittle. Front-palate and mid-palate shows lots of roast and coffee. It’s quite a stout. ratman197 (2344), Arvada, Colorado, USA May 21, 2008 Bomber poured a translucent black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of coffee, bakers chocolate, vanilla and light licorice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, esspresso and fruittiness with a smooth slightly saour lingering roasty finish. Too bad this beer does’nt taste as good as it smells. Back off the Black Patent malt some. Aubrey (2603), Denver, Colorado, USA May 4, 2008 On tap at the brewery, 2007 (just found my notes): Deep brown-black with a weak head. Texture was OK, but on the thin side. Malts were very roasted and toasted, to my surprise. There were even some nice coffee-like notes. Bitterness was complementing. RSRIZZO (1017), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Mar 17, 2008 Aroma is sweet with a light roasted scent. Color is a thick black with no carbonation and no head, it looks like flat cola. Taste is rich, roasted and flat. It starts with a full body it goes down with a sweet sharp feel. Finish comes in roasted with a sweet burnt taste and a bitter bite. After taste is like a cup of strong black coffee, its a burnt and bitter taste. This would be a good Stout if the carbonation was there, it has deep roasted and complex flavor but it all comes out a bit bland with out the carbonation. As it warms and you drink a bit more it seems to release more sweetness and I like it a little more.
