UPDATED: NOV 16, 2008 Sampled @ brewery. Very smooth texture, with flavors consisting of sweet peaches, sugar, sweet pine sap hops...apricots, some pineapple even. A very well developed flavor. Served @ proper temperature too! Nose is a sweet orange and peach hop concoction, robust and musty. The hop bitterness is subdued underneath the sweet citrus flavors, but shows up for the finish. Very drinkable stuff. 4.1
Aug 2008 bottle. Dark amber honey colored body, filmy and soft in appearance, thin but leaves considerable lace. Crunchy granola and crystal malt nose, heavy and forward. 2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - FEB 18, 2011
10-May-08 (22-oz bottle: Shared by SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!) Dusty, citrusy, light piney hop flavor, but somewhat acidic with some mild plastic phenolics in the background. Toasty malts are very lightly roasty, but these seem relatively far in the background. In the nose, dusty and tart citrusy hops dominate, but tart stone fruits and plastic phenolics show more presence when the beer is swirled in the glass. And as in the flavor, the malty aromas are subdued and remain pretty far in the background. Medium in body and medium-high in carbonation with a dry, almost cottony mouthfeel. Dark ruddy-amber, hazy body is capped by an inch of off-white head that shows solid retention and is easily rejuvenated with some swirling. A naked patchwork of spotty lacing is left on the glass.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 SDbruboy (1864) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 10, 2008
22 oz bottle, from GABF keg master David, via Dean at SDBrewCo. Pours dark ruddy amber with a large and creamy off-white head. Aroma is interesting, tart fruits, evergreen, dustiness, phenolic hints. Is this one starting to turn a bit? Flavor continues to show the tart fruits, more of the dust and earth along with juniper and pine hints, a bit of lime peel and spice in the finish. Medium body and light carbonation.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - JAN 31, 2009
Bronze colored brew with a full sized creamy white foam. Fairly nice nose with some lemony and brightly fruity notes from the hops along with some well extracted dessert-like malts. Sweet malts with notes of spruce from the hops. Tea-like. Different.
1.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 RSRIZZO (1810) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - APR 4, 2008
Aroma is a big fresh hop scent. Color is a bright amber with almost no carbonation and a thin but tight head. Taste is hoppy, peppery and a bit soapy. Starting with a medium body that goes down with a very rich feel. Finish nearly gags you with an overpowering grass taste that then turns peppery with a sour citrus thing in the end. After taste leaves you with a cleanser or soap taste. This may be the worst IPA I have ever had. What the hell is wrong with this brewery every one of there beers I have tried has had no carbonation and odd, sour or just plain off flavors. Ok the Stout wasn’t bad but still no carbonation. Next for me is there Indian Summer Golden Ale I can only hope its not as bad as this one.
