I’ve had this on several occasions from both the tap and at festivals. Good and sweet, as you’d expect a scottish heavy with lots of kettel caramel flavors and wood. Sweet without being over the top. A good beer, and one of my favorites from this place. BlackForestCO (831), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Bottle shared by mmtmatrix. Poured a deep garnet-red color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that faded to a thick later. Aroma of brown sugar, light peat, a bit of fruit (plum and apple) along with some oak and vanilla. Smooth, sweet entry with hints of soft brown sugar, some lightly tart fruit (apple and grape), leading into a moderate yeastiness that finishes with some lightly dry oak and soft vanilla. Moderate carbonation and decent mouthfeel. While not really true to the style, this beer offers some decent aroma and flavor, but lacks the complexity to hang with the big boys. | 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Mar 17, 2009 Pros: Nice appearance. Has some malt complexity and barrel character, but it can’t hold it’s own against the critters.
Cons: It’s getting quite sour and doesn’t have much malt left. It’s awfully thin. Very out of balance. Contaminated. HLGIV (14), Golden, Colorado, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Growler from brewery. Mahogany color with a faint head. Subtle earthy nose accompanied by a hint of the sweetness to come. Rich caramel maltiness slides like silk over the tongue. If you didn’t know you would never guess this beer is over 10% ABV. Great beer! Can’t wait to get back to the brewery. BeerandBlues2 (3237), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Draught at brewery. Pours clear brown with an average, creamy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, toffee), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (dough, leather, earth) with notes of dates. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness and bitterness, light acidity. RSRIZZO (1369), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 30, 2008 Had this brew at the All Colorado Beer Festival on 11/08/08. Color is a beautiful mahogany with good carbonation and a big thick head. Aroma is very malty. Taste is almost like a Barley wine. Its sweet and rich with dried fruit and malt. This was the best brew at this festival and is the best brew I have had from this brewery. talon1117 (633), Bellvue, Colorado, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 16, 2008 Batch 52. Brewed 06-08. Pours a mostly clear, dark garnet color with a mostly full, fizzy, beige head which is mostly diminishing and leaves no lace. Nose is spicy aclcohol, toasted caramel, raisin, bread crust, light chocolate, and hints at wood. Flavor is similar with caramel, brown sugar, light raisin, light nutty notes, light chocolate, and some toasty woods. Palate is more than medium, very lively, chewy, but almost watery near the finish. Finishes light;y dry and sweet with some mild, earthy bitterness; notes of caramel, brown sugar, faint wood notes, and faint alcohol. My first from Trinidad, and certainly mixed feelings. Lots of nice malt tones in the nose and flavor, but the other notes really lack and that depreciates from the quality of the beer. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA
