3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle : Yes - the worst wax job I’ve seen. Whatever. Pour is cola brown, with a modest off white head into this glass. It quickly shifts to a feint ring around the glass. It’s one of the more unappealing presentations from bottle to pour, lets face it. Anyway. The nose is minerals, cocoa, with vinous notes and dark fruit presence. I never in a million years would have guessed the "3 special ingredients" in this one - but once you know what they did - your mind / palate remains confused by whats going on. This one does start fairly nicely - there’s a decent dark sour base here. There’s some malty heft, with earthen vinous barrel notes moving things along. What it then does it take a right hand turn at mustard seed and swirl around the golden raisin in an odd way. There’s an odd bittering high note and then a dry, ashy finish line. Yeah.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12.7 oz bottle from Cappy’s. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, tart dark fruit, raisins, honey, mild spices, doesn’t really get beyond a mild tart character, so sour is a stretch in my opinion, a mild vinegar quality, plums, nothing bad going on.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled at the Societe Party 2016. It poured a dark reddish/brown color with no head. The aroma was of toasted malts, earth and some sour fruit. The taste was similar to the aroma with more sour fruits, earth, malts, some raisins and plums. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark with no foam head. The aroma is tart, funky, some vinegar, and has mild dark fruits. Tasting, it is medium to high in sour intensity. I noticed a good sweetness, some fruit from the raisins, lemon, crisp malt tone, good body, minor mustard seed flavor, and a sour finish. Overall this was a pretty good beverage.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft 12 oz pour at the Engine House No. 9 sour fest. Obviously, the name sold me on this one. Pours black with a thin oily tan head. Dark sour fruit, soft bran aroma. Some grape, black cherry, and dark fruit sour. Not picking up a lot of what they say is in it, but an awesome sour flavor overall. Very nice beer.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
[ Keg ][ 6oz ][ @Devil’s Den ][ $5 ][ Tulip ][ 05.30.15 ]
Darker-than-cola pour, tepid with no head. Ashy nose is lightly sweet, metallic with soft oat/chocolate sweetness. Front palate is thin, oxidized oat before sticky and sugary grape/plum mid palate, juicy but sticky, burnt sugars and oat through the moderate-bodied sticky end, acids too high amidst sweetness, all of drawing similarities to soda. Nothing too offensive, booze in control.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sample at Bob’s Bar for CCBW. Pours a somewhat opaque brown-black color with a thin light beige head that recedes quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Dark fruit, chocolate and herbs. Medium body with flavors of balsamic vinegar, funky fruit, malt and chocolate. The finish is sour fruits and malt. Decent overall.
