Appearance- Poured steadily into the side of a slightly tilted tulip producing a light beige head that dissipated after a minute ring around the glass. A clear purplish red color frames the deep, dark mahogany center when held to the light. Aroma- The aroma is barny and delivers some very pleasant berry fruit notes with a little hidden bitter chocolate. Taste- The heavy lemony/lactic acidity awakes all the taste buds as it travels over the tongue opening them up to flavors of tart cherry, blueberry and brown sugar accompanied with a blend of lacto and pedio funk. It has a oaky quality that is more apparent as it warms which also presents a black currant undertone that is muted. Palate- The beer provides a medium with a subtle carbonation that seems to be slightly amplified by the tartness. As the beer warms the intensity declines. The beer finishes slowly in layers as the acidity mellows and the fruit becomes more prevalent and the funky flavors stick around under your tongue and on the roof of your mouth. Overall- This one I will most likely have again. Perhaps it could be a bit much for some, with the assertive sourness, but it was interesting and pretty complex. It had a lot going on and I donít know if 375 ml was enough for me to figure it out.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2015 12.7oz botte for $8.99 from Savor Pint. Blackish pour with a thin tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma of tart fruit, raisin, woody. Tastes are sweet and sour, oak, toffee, dark fruit, vinegar, cherry, sugary and acidic. Fairly puckering. Low carbonation, slick full palate. Ok overall. Way too pricey to seek out again. 3/27/15: so I got it again anyway. This time on tap at Growl for happy hour $3.50 - at that price it unsurprisingly tasted better...

Bottle in Seattle. Deep brown, small tan foam. Dark brown malt, red fruit tartness. Medium sour, oud bruin character. Some spices (mustard seed makes sense after I read that). Tart cherry skin. Pretty darn tasty.

375mL bottle thanks to rdixon77, late summer 2014. Murky amber brown pour with a small tan head, mild lacing. Very sour aroma, mildly acetic, but not the huge pop others are getting, leathery, malty. Suuuuuuper sour flavor, very mild acetic, wood, leather, dank, malty. Tasty.

Draft falling rock denver. Nice sour brown, funky. Sour taste is slightly young and tart, maybe needs to age some.

Bottle... Pours cloudy and brown with a small, fluffy, lightly-tanned head. Decent retention. The aroma is an earthy, chemical and fruity collection of mustiness, wet leather, acetone and black cherries. Full-bodied with prickly carbonation. The flavor is quite sour. Itís acidic, but mostly acetic, with a mild note of acetone (or what I believe acetone would taste like if I were stupid enough to drink it) and a light sour-cherry component. Finishes like a cherry SweeTart with a bit of a tongue-numbing trait - similar to a local anesthetic. Despite its many flaws, this is interesting and somewhat enjoyable. Thanks to my friend, Alden Bing, at Orchid Island Brewery for gifting me this bottle!
