COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pappy Legba is brewed with just a touch of flaked maize for a seductive and creamy texture, this crimson Saison is undeniably focused on fruit. Post fermentation this special Belgian is aged on a grip of pie cherries, lending it more of a Kriek profile rather than Saison. 13% ABV!!!

Bottle at Dak’s. Pours a reddish color. Aroma is fruit and some wheat-like notes. Taste is sweet with more fruit. Ok, but not really digging the idea of a 13% abv saison.

Crimson red pour with a white head. Nice cherry and yeasty aroma. Taste is very cherry forward with good carbonation. Nice saison, alcohol is well hidden as well.

750 ml bottle from Wilburs. Pinkish red and hazy with no head, no lacing. Aroma is strong and fruity with wine/alcohol and spices. Sweet cherry fruity flavor hides the 13% well. Interesting, never had anything like it.

this makes quelque chose look like an infant, overwhelming cherry flavor and aroma.with a balanced body with light carbonation. hazy amber pour. wish this one was available in a year round varietal. would love to see this aged in pinot or zin barrels to really bring out the fruit and tartness of the cherries. Absolutely amazing,

At Avery Strong Ale Fest 2013--clear orange copper with a malty syrupy nose, has some brown sugar oatmeal, a little pear, and a little orange rind hoppiness. Flavor is sweet and sensual, and complex. Nice fruity overtones like pear and peach, and some molassesy sweetness, with a creamy yet herbal and citrusy bitterness. Very fun to drink and complex.

Bottle. Pours a hazy pink orange with minimal head and no lacing. Aroma is cherry, oaky, tobacco, vanilla, with some alcohol. Flavor is cherry, tropical fruit, with a creamy vanilla finish, mild tart tones. Quite fruity and sweet throughout, as is expected from the puree. So fruity it is borderline artificial, though I don’t mind it. The alcohol masking is impressive, it doesn’t taste above 10% abv. Main complaint is the one dimensional flavor profile, all saison character is hidden behind the cherries. Soft carbonation, medium body, and smooth texture. An interesting, smooth, strong, fruity brew, like a sweet imperial kriek beer. Not sure why this is being classified as a belgian strong ale here, as the packaging calls it an imperial saison. Then again it is not much of a saison. Nonetheless, glad I tried this one.

At Boulder Strong Ale. Weird funky fruit nose...honestly this was like changing my son’s diaper after he’s had some dried cherries...but in a good way...Earthy notes and nice fruit...not tart or sweet, just dry fruit with a round palate. Complex and much better than the 55 rating it has right now. See some folks complaining about the price...I can understand that and don’t know what this runs, but I have always been hesitant about Trinity beers for that reason, so might judge this differently if I bought a bottle, but glad I got to try it.

A reddish, amber color with an off-white head. Lightly tart with some cherry notes. Sweet fruit, caramel, bread, and lots of sugar. A bit of spicy coriander notes, alcohol, grass, and yeast. The flavor is very sweet, but does have some good fruit character and a light tartness. Lots of cherry, sweet sugar and malt, and a hint of coriander. Light alcohol warmth on the finish.

In short: A sweet dusty/rustic cherry beer with a dry finish. Good stuff
How: Bottle 750ml, split 4-way, thanks Joe
The look: Partly cloudy pinkish-red body topped by white ring of foam
In long: Nose has plenty of cherries (a mix of fresh cherries and dried cherries) and some rustic/dusty yeast. Taste has a fair amount of sweetness on the attack, sweet semi-sour cherries and residual sugars but then the beer dries out nicely with minerals, dusty yeast and tart astringency, leaving a cherry pit sensation in the after-taste. No alcohol apparent. Surprised by the low ratings on this beer, this is usually the type of beer that does well on ratebeer. Sometimes I hate high gravity sweet fruity beers and sometimes I love high gravity sweet fruity beers, it’s like I have a split personality or may I am two Siamese twins joined perfectly.
