My Bottom Line:
Citrusy and floral hop petals scent the round caramel malt body of this generous and honest India Pale Ale, before a spicy and wooden hop bitterness tickles the back of the tongue. This is not the hop bomb you might expect from your usual IPA, but it remains a well-crafted hoppy quaffer nonetheless.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam sticks to the top of the hazy dark orange.
-Biscuity malt underlings peer through the aroma at times.
-The chewy body is one of the best features of this IPA, imho.
-Carbonation is quite comfortable and does not impede on any flavor.
-Aromatics could be better defined.
-A mild caramel malt return laces the finishing hoppiness.
-Balance is cleverly achieved in this IPA.
Bottle; best before March ’08.

My first Rhode Island beer, woo-hoo thanks jjpm74. Pours a dark amber with small white head and leaves tons of lacing. Aroma is grapefruit and caramel but muted. Flavor has a lot of resiny bitterness and just a big dry resiny bite, grapefruit and caramel malts. Really the bitterness is all there is and it could’ve used some dry-hopping, a little thin as well.

The R.I. IPA enjoyed at the brew pub--poured a burnished copper tone with a moderate white head. Decent lacing. Good balance of English and NW hops with substantial malts. Mildly hopped IPA right in that nice range. Good beer.

This beer pours a amber color with a decent head to it. as you smell it there is a nice hoppy smell with some mild fruits mainly apricots. As you drink it it is bitter yet it is also mildly watery. not one of the best IPA’s.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Growler, from brewpub. Pours a dark copper body under a creamy and foamy one finger beige head that was fairly short lived. Moderate visible carbonation. Nose is moderately hoppy with mostly a floral quality and some slightly fruity malt. Flavor is light to moderately bitter with a slightly caramel tinged maltiness showing through. Mouthfeel was light to medium bodied with nice soft carbonation. Overall, a decent IPA, but nothing unique.

on tap at mews tavern 8/4/07. poured a copper in color with a creamy head and good carbination. malty smell with some fruit and slight sweetness. taste is malts, fruit (especially black cherry), and definitely has the dry bitter finish as advertised. good beer on tap but not sure it would be as good in a bottle. it is worth noting i had no idea this was a 7% beer while enjoying it so it does hide the alcohol rather well.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled, thanks jjpm74! Cloudy dark amber, explosive lively head. Flowery lychee aroma. Rather sweet withh sparkling mouthfeel, notes of yeast and resin. Overcarbonation leads to a very spritzy mouthfeel and a seemingly light body. Lots of orange, some perfume. Lingering bitter finish.

Bottled. Hazy amber with a huge white foam. Dryish orangey hop aroma with notes of flowers, perfume and pepper. The flavour is pretty much the same with orangey hops dominating with touches of flowers, grass and black pepper. Very bitter finish of orange-peels. Flavourfull and bitter but not much going on. Still, taher tasty. Thanks for sharing Per.
