Sampled at esbls. Looks like prune juice. Aroma is heavy on chocolate and fruit. Lighter on wild yeast. This is sour cherries. Very sour ones. I like this nut a little goes a long way with me.

Dark amber/brownish in color with an off-white head. The nose has a nice sour, lactic character. Some good cherry aroma, a bit of roasted malt, vinegar, and oak. Light chocolate, leather, and earth. The flavor has a decent cherry character, some acetic acid, lemon, and lots of earth. A bit of leather, oak, chocolate, and mild roasted malt.

This awesome sour has a very, very dark brown color with a touch of red and an off-white head. Its aroma is of a sour red, thin for one and less bold. The flavor is soft and mellow for the style, thick but light. There’s a touch of cherry in the finish, slightly reminiscent of a cherry cough drop. Nice. Classy. I approve.

Bottle. Hazy deep brown/red liquid with small off-white head. Aroma of earthy funk, red berries, wood, lemon, minerals and light roasted malt. Taste is dry and medium to high sour with notes of toffee, light vinegar. Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation. Nice and complex.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 kbutler1 (1259) - Minnesota, USA - DEC 16, 2012
Bottle. Barrel # SBB6, Bottle Number 4/12. Pours a cherry cola like brownish red with a slight light tan head that collars around the glass. Cherry, wood notes, and lemon like zest in the nose. Tart sourness right off the bat gives way to a fruity cherry like taste that ends with a lemon sourness. I don’t pick up too much coffee in this but the almonds add some depth here. The cherry is more of a dark, tart variety as opposed to a candied sweet cherry. Very tasty. Medium/light mouthfeel.

In short: A dark cherry beer with too much vinegar. Meh
How: Bottle 750ml, 2011 vintage, consumed approximately 8 months after bottling. Bottle sent to me by adnielsen, thanks Aaron
The look: Opaque purple body topped by a quickly dissipating head
In long: Nose has plenty of dark cherries and sourness but also a wild component taking the form of stinky feet. Taste is a truckload of dark cherries, caramel, lots vinegary acidity/sourness, a slice of sweet cherry pie, plenty of oak tannins. Soft carbonation. This beer is very intense, more appropriate for a tasting than drinking a full bottle like I did. With the proliferation of American Sours I’m becoming increasingly tired of acetic acid. Pleeeeaaassseee gimme some lactic acid, I beg you. Drop a bunch of cherries in a bottle of woody red wine, leave the bottle opened for months until and it turns vinegary and it will taste something like this beer. On the plus side it had enough sweetness to cover some of the vinegar. At least it is fun to say I didn’t like the The Flavor flavor, hours of fun in my case.

bottle. Pours muddy reddish brown soapy head nose vinager, cherry, almonds wet wood, pitty. Fl very acidic, tart cherries, earthy almonds, loads of
vinegar, pretty undrinkable but there’s some good components in here.
Acid hitting the stomach hard. Pretty watery bland finish.

750mL at Woodshop 7 thanks to daknole. Muddy, opaque mahogany pour. No head. Looks like yeast dregs after being shaken up in the cooler. Chocolate milk opacity. Nose is dog breath and acetic acid. Moves to black cherry pit and pulp. Taste is spicy and dry. Very papery and hot acetic acid. Mild lactic finish with heavy lime pulp. Very tart and citric though the finish. Not too abrasive. Better as it opens up and releases volatile aromas.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 wedgie9 (1590) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 14, 2012
Bottle Number 433-11
Tasted on 5/14/12 from a waxed and capped 750mL bottle obtained in a trade. Pours dark red-tinted mahogany with a thin brick red head that leaves very thin lace. The nose is dark and malty, full of coffee, dark chocolate, marzipan, Honey Smacks cereal, fresh cherries, and a very sour note as well. The flavor is much more aggressively sour cherry, with all of the darker malt notes, and marzipan present but underlying. The body is medium with a somewhat sticky texture, very light carbonation, and a long, extremely sour, and dark malt finish.

Bottle that I took to a small tasting with Max, Paul, and Andy. Bottle #581-11. Pours a dirty ruby and garnet color, dark purple tones. Big cherry, toast, and a hint of almond. Medium bodied, lots of chewy cherries, nice sourness with a hint of funk. Smooth and balanced. Long gentle acidity and lemony tartness on the finish. Quite nice.
