DYCSoccer17 (1994), Davis, California, USA Oct 23, 2004 I had this at the GIBF. This was on tap labelled "Bosox Barleywine" *note this is days after the Red Sox made it to the world series*. Ironically, this beer sounds good and looks good, but in the long run, is a real loser, just like the Red Sox franchise. Lots of licorice in the aroma with hints of vanilla that is totally not what I expect from the style. Hazy copper mahogany color with a nice off-white head. Very hoppy to start--thats all i taste. Slight licorice in the finish. argo0 (6018), Washington DC, USA Dec 26, 2002 Dark red-brown, with minimal head. Aroma is fairly faint, malty and slightly roasty. Taste is sweet malty, not much bitterness. The alcohol, fairly muted at first, provides a decent burn in the aftertaste once the beer warms.
