Fourgrains beer, brewed to an original Wilderen recipe. Mild and spicy triple, with a mild finish thanks to the use of fine and noble hops. Ingredients: barley, wheat, oats, rye, hops, spices, candisugar, yeast and water.

Pours a hazy yellow body with a flufft white head, that settles down to speckles on the surface of the beer. The nose has an interesting mild barnyard aroma along with some yeast, wheat, hay and spices. The taste is spicy and sweet with a long bitter finish. Carbonation is very high and prickly, the palate is just above medium. A perfectly good beer but the spiciness throws it a little out of balance.

Specialty grain? Just a tripel to me. A lot like karmeliet. Fruity and malts. Low carbo which was bad.

Fourgrains tripel from a brewery which also makes ’jenever’ and, since this week, whisky. Rocky, snow white, stable head, deep golden blonde colour, clear. Rye and wheat clearly noticeable, banana, soap, apple peel, young cheese, some DMS (cooked vegetables). Light fruity taste of apple with a hint of banana, smooth, malt sweetish, retronasally ruined by the DMS, mild herbal hoppiness in the finish but not really bitter. Lacks personality and they should boil the mash longer, perhaps that will eliminate the disturbing DMS effect.

Bottle. Light golden, hazy, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish aroma, some caramel and light fruitiness, spiciness (coriander), faint hoppyness. Body is medium, malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish flavor, light caramel and fruitiness, light spiciness and hoppyness. Finish is average, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel and faint fruitiness, light spiciness and hoppyness, faint alcohol. Your quite typical Belgian caramel sweetish ale - spiciness makes finish bit drier. OK but really nothing special.
