Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

I thought this was a fantastic beer! Pours golden with a large frothy head that diminishes slowly, leaving a nice lacing. Aroma is quite sweet, though does not hint at the complex taste one is about to experience. Initial flavor is sweet, perhaps too sweet, but one immediately notices the end, which is caramelly, complex and fantastic. Lingers in the throat. Perhaps the only drawback is that this is not as light as it could be, still wonderful.

Pours a nice hazy orangish golden color. Wonderful sweet malt nose of banana, candi sugar, orange peel, and a hint of belgian spiciness. This beers flavor is wonderful and gives off a great cotton candy like candi sugar sweetness as well as some hints of corriander and other spices. I forgot how much I like this beer and it is wonderful.

Poured clear gold with a massive billowing white head with a variety of bubble sizes. Grainy, sweet, aroma. Flavours of lemon, melon, strong yeast, asome heat, sweet honey in the finish.

From the 75cl champagne bottle. I chuckled to myself as I recalled the old Miller "champagne of beers" campaign as I popped the cork out of this legitimate claimant of that title. This looked and poured like a barley champagne ... pale yellow with a gigantic poofy, airy, bright white carbonic head that actually squeezes atop my tulip glass and stands on it’s own with a 1/4-inch protruding well beyond the lip before it subsides, slowly and elegantly. The aroma is airy and extremely fruity, not unlike a carbonated lemonade! This drinks like a dream ... light and airy, with light and fruity flavors, yet with a big robust character. Sweet lemon, light yeast. I believe I’ve discovered a prototype for all the good beers of the world. There are fewer and fewer bad beers in the world, but there are also few exceptional beers. This is one of them.(#2725, 2/23/2007)

Bottle. Thick and savory head. Beautiful pale golden and crystal clear. Yeast dominates the nose, but is well balanced by wheat, light alcohol and lemon rind. The taste reminds me of a citusy white wine. Creamy and light mouth feel. This is a beautiful sunny day in a bottle.

pours a dark cloudy yellow with a nice three finger fluffy white head. aroma is of grain and lemon with a little alcohol, also has a little wheat and bread. has a medium body with lively crisp carbonation and good lacing. flavor is of soft grain, some wheat, a little lemon and bread. has a little bite on the tongue i am guessing from the carbonation? very bubbly and full in the back of the throat. not to bad thought there maybe a little more bread and "fruity" characteristics but not bad. almost has a champagne like quality to it, but if i had to choose i would take st.bernardus over this any day. flavor does come out a little more as it warms though. i am noticing a more fruity aroma now to me it almost smells like a touch of raspberry’s, also a little in the flavor but mostly in the aroma. a little bit more bread comes thru also. i am also getting some apple aroma and flavor. more of a complex beer altogether for me now nicely balanced through out better than when i started off in the beginning very good!

Citrus to spice and oats in the nose, I could do line sof this beer is smells so good. Fruit and wild yeast but a heavy sharp carbonation. This beer is Bright and Alive and I would drink it again.

UPDATED: JAN 30, 2008 Re-rate. Draught. Nose is pure bananas, somewhat reminiscent of the artificial banana aroma used in hard candy. Deep cloudy brown. Flavor is very sweet with banana and bubblegum notes. Very drinkable.
