Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Bottle Saisnbury’s, Banbury 27-04-06. A hazy orange coloured beer with a medium head, the taste is wheaty, oaty and malty also quite sweet and with some spiceiness prseent. A really solid tripel that goes down extremely well.

I’ve been rating quite a few tripels these days and this is one of the finest. Very spicey aroma that even has a little heat from the spice. Chewy medium/full body with a complex fruity, malty, spicey flavor. Not dry at all, very delicious.

Huge white creamy head with some fine lace over clear yellow with ongoing carbonation. Head subsides quickly. Deep, clean, somewhat delicate aroma of old hops, light fruit, and sweetish malts with notes of banana and spices; some alcohol aroma. Light, delicate, velvety taste of sweetish malty with strong old hop overtones with faint mustiness and notes of banana. Aftertaste is old hops with a little bitterness, which lingers. An excellent trippel. Not very powerful, but delicate, balanced, and beautifully drinkable. (0.33l bottle.)

Fruity, banana aroma. Large thick white head. Lacing is all over the glass. A fairly clear golden body with champagne bubbles rushing to the top of the glass. Slowly waiting for the head to shrink. The nice thing about that is you can let the beer warm up that way. The alcohol is very well hidden in this. Similar to Duvel with a dryer finish. My only complaint is that this beer is slightly one dimensional. It still is solid for what it is though.

On tap at Everybody’s pizza. Big, blond, robust, and spicy. Just like I like my women. Not particularly my favorite at the time in the right place, this would be an awesome drink. Points off for setting if I can do that.

The only reason I did not give this a 20 was because that spot is for my Duvel! This brew was absolutely splendid! Perfectly blonde ale with a great clean head. Excellent smooth yet robust flavour!
