First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

UPDATED: DEC 6, 2008 Bottle: Pours with a golden colour and a very nice white head. The lovely aroma is of yeast, coreander, peach and oranges. The flavour is sweet malt with taste of spices sutch as vanilla, pepper and coriander, citrus and green apple. Medium to full bodied. Well balanced. Slightly sour and bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

750ml Bottle Purchased at Hollingshead Deli in Orange California, and consumed on 8/22/06. The beer appeared to have been bottled on 2/2/06. With the recomendation from the fine folks at Hollingshead I drank this beer at room temp to bring out the carmel flavor. After removing the metal cage, the cork flew off and the bottle began to pour out and I lost a little bit to the floor. The brew pours straw color and has a cloudy pillowy foamy head. The caramel flavor certainly comes through in this sweet tasting and alchol ridden tripel. My major complaint is that the alchol comes through a lot and the beer is only an 8%. Well worth a try and a quality tripel, not the best but it ranks highly.

On tap at Duvel Cafe (Sthlm). Incredible floral aroma, esters and spice. The taste is very complex and I really wish this was easier to get a hold of here in Sweden (state monopoly, remember...)

UPDATED: APR 13, 2008 Bottle, 33 cl. Taste this beer many times; have it always @ home. Like it very much. An unic combination grains with character. Hazy honey-like amber color, with a massive foamy head that disappates somewhat quickly. Aroma typical tripel scents - yeast, lots of alcohol, peach, apricot. Taste unusual thick mouthfeel with some soft doughy yeast, with present alcohol. GOOD.

Bottle. Poured an excellent honey-like amber with a massive foamy head that disappates somewhat quickly. Typical tripel scents - yeast, lots of alcohol, peach, apricot. Unusual thick mouthfeel with some soft doughy yeast taste, with ever present alcohol. Has a coating effect on your mouth and you can really feel it go down. Has some white wine character to it. Fascinating.

11.2oz Best before 01/03/08. Pours a clear golden with a gigantic rocky white head. Aroma is actually somewhat like a wit at first with some orange and coriander up front. Also some yeast, banana, pear, and light toffee. This seems to be one of the fruitier tripels as these flavors dominate. There is also plenty of yeastiness, a little toffee, and some alcohol warmth as well. Dry finish, highly carbonated, medium bodied with nice lacing. Very nice.

Pours very cloudy yellow/amber with clumps of yeast and other precipitates. Mild yeast aroma with appley sweetness. In the mouth it’s sweetness and light, almost like a cider. Well carbonated.
