COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2005 Excellent! Very drinkable. Off white head that never dissipates all the way, gold color. Floral, hop aroma. Tastes like berries, a little sweet and alcohol completely hidden. 4.7 UPDATE: I bought a second case of this beer, and it is quite different. There is no sediment, when there was a lot before, making it very clear this case, no cloudiness like before. The alcohol is now quite evident. Iím not sure if my last batch was more aged or what. Itís still good, but not nearly as good as the other case. Also much more on the dry than sweet side. 4.0

Poured a light amber with a thin white head. Banana, grass, lemon, and light spice on the tongue. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Sweet with lots of citrus on the tongue. A great beer for a style I really donít care for.

Pours golden, with a frothy and substantial head. Has a kind of sour taste, with lots of citrus notes as well. Light and refreshing, but strong too. An interesting and unique beer, definitely worth trying.

Clear darker coloured body with a frothy white head. Aroma of grass, coriander seed, curacao and pepper. Light to Medium-bodied; Nice full-flavoured taste with traditional belgian white characteristics. Overall, very nice-definately one to try! I sampled this beer on 15-May-2004 at the May RB Party in Toronto, Onatrio.

Very very good. I like the darker Belgian beers a bit better, but this one is deceivingly full in flavor for a blonde. a nice thick head pours from the bottle. It is certainly fruity, but not overly sweet. Really nice.

Best Before 1/1/2007 Ok, now that I have calmed down after my near beheading by the cork from this bottle I can tender my opinion. Clear sparkling golden light amber with a massive white densely foamy head that lasts forever. The aroma is amazing, pepper, coriander, fruit (peaches/necatrines), herbs, [continue adding adjectives here...]. Seriously there is that much going on. One of the best noses out there. The flavor is almost as good as the aroma, sweet lucious fruity peaches, definite yeastiness balancing the sweetness. Medium lively body with a fairly dry finish. Does not feel overcarbonated in the mouth which I feared after the cork episode. A damn fine tripel, up there with the Allagash. Definitely need to do a side-by-side with the Allagash and this one.
