First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Had on tap at the Winking Lizard. Very nice spicy aroma. Taste was orange, lemon, sweet malts, and a nice big clove taste that added a bit of a spicy kick to the end. Very good tripel!

Pour is a golden with a huge white head. Aroma starts out a little skunky(green bottle with a Belgian?) but straightens it self out with some clove and vanilla. Flavor is lots of great clove and yeast with some pepper and vanilla. This one did not start out good for me but the flavor is quite decent and that puts this in the good category.

From bottle at Paters Vaetje. Hazy deep golden with a medium white head. Yeasty fruit aroma. Powerful sweet base with fruity hops leading way to a drier finish. Spicy, even peppery qualities with hints of perfume. Quite fizzy. A nice tripel.

750 shared with Dickinsonbeer and Willblake at his place. After I removed the cage on the cork, it literally shot out of the bottle like a canon and bounced off the ceiling before we knew what had happened. Good think I was not looking down at the cork or I probably would have ended up going to the ER with my glasses shattered and my eye shot out. Poured hazy orange in color with a HUGE off white head that took a good deal of time to dissipate. Nose was very nice on this beer- citrus rind, tons of musty/bready yeast, spicy. The taste was fairly dry, with citrus and pear, alot of musty basement-bready yeast. Some honey like sweetness coated the tongue and it finished spicy. About time I tried this tripel.

12 oz bottle from Hopdog.Pours a hazy amber with a large beige head. Nose is fruity esters, alcohol, and acetone...yuck sared to taste this one, lol... BUT.....Does not taste like it smells. Starts with sweet candy, then some fruit....pear, peaches and strawberries, and finishes with some warm but not hot alcohol. A bit of spice, i think ginger, in the aftertaste, as well as a little honey. Body is medium, carbonation is moderate to high. This is much better than the aroma implies, and in fact i do not think i have ever tasted a beer that was SO diufferent from it’s aroma. Pretty frakkin good.

This is a good beer, but nothing compared to a Chimay. I have a great bias as Chimay was one of my first true loves in beer life, but this is much too fruity...if by chance it cooked to long you could call it white Zin :)

Bottle - Pours hazy golden/copper with offwhite head. Sweet aromas of fruit, cloves, vanilla, with hints of floral. "Yummy" (if I can say that straight-faced) flavors: sweet malt, fermented fruit, spicy with bitter finish, rich... and a slightly sour-dough bread flavor with the medium bodied mouthfeel.

Draught at the In de Wildeman, Amsterdam. Copper color with creamy head. Sweetish, fruity and spicy aroma with clove and vanilla. Sweet, malty, grainy and spicy flavor with orange. Nice sweet, fruity and spicy finish. Somewhat sweeter on draught than in a bottle. This used to be one of my favourite blond beers but nowadays I prefer dryer beers. Yet, this beer has a nice balanced spicy-fruity fermentation characteristics which is often overdone in belgian and dutch beers.
