First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Bottle. Clear golden with an impressive looking white head. Lovely fruity aroma with hints of clove and spice. Some sweet candy aswell. Taste is well balanced and mixes the aromas together very well in a pleasant, semi sweet way. Light touch of clove and a light warmth into the aftertaste. Close to full body and close to high levels of co2. Probably the best tripel beer Iíve had.

Pours a hazy hello with thick white head. Has a strong wheat, year and citrus aroma. A very strong lemon taste with heavy wheat, yeast and some grain. A very dry taste from the wheat and yeast.

Bottle. Itís some years since I last had one. Nose is malt, Belgian yeast, caramel, lots and lots of banana, touch of vanilla, grains, peach, classic profile for a Belgian triple. Taste is caramel, banana, slight bubble gum, candy sugar, wheat, spice, clove, cream. Mouthfeel is too thick, and a bit cloying for a triple to my mind. Itís a very nice triple, but no more.

Bottle. Hazy yellow with a huge, frothy white head. Aroma is fresh, sweet, yeasty with ripe banana and some citrus. Taste is as above but with some light malt/wheat and herbal bitterness. Medium body, high carbonation.
Itís been 10 years since I last had a bottle of Tripel Karmeliet, no idea why it took so long between now and last time because this is a very nice, refreshing and almost too easy to drink Tripel.

Little hazy golden color, big white head. Aroma is wheat, grass, yeast, white wine, banana. Taste is dry, sweet at finish and aftertaste. Banana in flavor, grass, bitter citrus, herbal and floral notes. Medium to full body, well carbonated.

Bottle: lig golden straw, weak head and no lace. Pours with lots of gas. Thick yeast lees present. Very fresh funky lifted nose. Citrus and spice dominate. Might have Brett. Lemon lift is enormous. Very dry, fresh, not sour and low to moderate bitterness. Cloves, high carbon did oxide. Banana, estery almost sweet mid palate. Lots of flavor and freshness. Balances the alcohol. Iím just struggling with the style and mix of flavors. Really interesting beer. Itís just not for me.
