Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Poured from bottle into the tulip-glass that followed. Wow. Beautiful, frothy, long lasting head. Strong, almost unpleasant aroma. (I said "almost") of good yeast and banana. Surprisingly mild but excellent taste. Citrus, herbs, alcohol, banana... The list goes on. Short palate but that?s a good thing, after everything it initially gives you. I could drink this every day. Among my top 5 beers.

On tap at "na 7. schode", Zilina. Clear golden with big white head, persistent, leaves lacing. Sweet malty aroma with belgian yeast, butter, grass, caramel, lot of herbs and hints of orange peel. Taste is malty sweet, caramel, fruity, orange peel with just hints of bittery. Full body, creamy texture, beautifully ballanced.

Pours blonde with a big white head and a sharp, spicy nose with touches of floral and fruit. Flavor is the most balanced tripel I’ve had to date, with bitter citrus, coriander and modest hops perfectly matching up to the Belgian sugars and bready-fruity malt base. Warm but not boozy. Very strongly carbonated. About as good as beers get.

Hazy golden color. Nice white head, that is persistent till the end. Medium to low carbonation, full bodied, rounded and creamy. Aroma is very complex, plums, strawberry, orange peel, passion fruit (?), yeast... and more that I couldn’t understand. Taste is sweet, malt, plums, dried grapes, bread and somehow spicy... don’t know for sure if cloves or pepper... Aftertaste is sweet and long.

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie. One of those beers I’ve had so many times I automatically think I’ve rated it already, but haven’t. Pours hazy gold with vibrant bubbly head. A blossoming aroma of yeast & sweet spice. Taste is spicy, a touch grainy with hints of vanilla, banana & caramel and a soft bitter finish. Truly one of the best.

Bottle from Brewers Droop, Bristol via SouthWest Drinks (tried day after delivery). BBE 23/02/17. Rich obvious banana aroma with some vanilla and light clove. Slightly sulphurous wheat like smell and subtle green freshness. Gusher. Slightly cloudy very pale yellow with a super long lasting white head. Flavour is very wheaty with sulphur overtones, noticeable alcohol blended with a rich almost wine-like equivalence in beer, if such a thing can blend. Honey like. Not quite as ’creamy’ as promised, possibly overcarbonated slightly but very, very nice.
