First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

Tulip glass from a tap at Barley’s in Greenville SC (from 2012 notes). A: Pours a bright, pale honey/golden color, with a small-to-moderate size, exceptionally creamy head. Head has good retention, at least as a ring. S&T: Light and fruity, although no specific fruit comes to the fore. Clove and banana elements, but less pronounced than in some tripels. Honey too. The aroma is a bit boozy, but in a positive way ... think fine brandy or liqueur. M: Very smooth, with a bit of alcohol warming. Nice, light carbonation. Overall: One of the best tasting tripels I have ever had. Complex and flavorful, but not challenging. Very refined. Makes an excellent sipper, and I took a good long time to finish my serving, enjoying every sip.

On tap @ La Taverne du Petit Wasquehal, Wasquehal - FR. Color: clear golden blond beer with small carbonation and high light white foam. Smell: caramel and grain notes. Bread notes. Alcohol finish. Toffee. Taste: medium/full body with full grain malt, caramel and toffee balance. Really sweet. Good attenuation and quiet drinkable. Caramel finish. Alcohol. Boozy beer, not so balanced. Aftertaste: sweet, caramel and toffee. Dry finish, astringent with boozy alcohol. Not so balanced with alcohol taste.

Bubbly, fruity, slightly spicy, nice yeast presence. Definitely a solid standard and great example of style.

Yellow gold, transparent and alive. Gasification medium-high fine bubble. Wide layer of white foam cup, which soon vanishes, but not entirely. complex, fruity and spicy aroma with notes of citrus, apricot, clove, yeast and hops herbal nuances. It makes an appearance cereal, especially wheat, so you can remember a German weiss bier. Taste dominated by malt, which gives it a sweet character. Beer with malty body, but soft and creamy torque characteristic provided by oats. Fruit continues to persist in taste, like spices detected in the aroma. Balanced, it ends with a balanced bitterness, which overlooks the alcohol, without actually distorting the whole.

Lekko słodki aromat pomarańczy w połączeniu z przyprawowościa drożdży i lekką kolendrą.

Pale golden. Fruity and refreshing, with a rich palate of spicy phenols. Moderately sweet and somewhat pungent taste, and a dry and pungent finish with very low bitterness. Medium body. Overall, a very good tripel. Not the best I have had, though. The peppery phenols are almost too dominating, and I like my tripels are little fruitier and smoother. Still very tasty.

UPDATED: OCT 22, 2016 Slightly cloudy golden with a huge white head. Nose of citrus, grapefruit, zest, spice, some notes of yeast and dried banana, hints of light malt. Taste is well balanced, less sweet than expected. Medium body, high carbonation, dangerously drinkable for the amount of ABV. One of my favorite tripels ever...
