COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

33cl bottle at home. Pours a clear golden colour with a big creamy white head which leaves lacing. Aroma of banana, caramel, citrus, malt, spices. Taste is medium sweet, medium bitter with a soft bitter finish. Notes of coriander, spices, malts, yeast, banana, citrus. Sticky texture, medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Bottle shared with koleminer20. Aroma is banana, permanent marker, citrus, dusty barnyard, dry, not as harsh as a typical Tripel, quite subdued, in fact. Appearance is straw golden, white head, hazy, with a head I expect to stick around. Taste is nice. Citrus, tropical fruit, banana, dusty, barnyard, dry, top notch. Mouthfeel is light to medium body, light carbonation, dry citrus aftertaste. Overall, this one makes a believer out of me yet. Normally I hate this style but this one is different from all the other Tripels. Well done.

330 mL bottle shared by ebone1988 for the damn book. The pour is a slightly foggy golden yellow color with a nice cap and thick collar of white head leaving a couple spots of lace. The aroma is surprisingly pretty good. There is a strong lemongrass and a great citrus rind. The maltiness and spiciness of any other tripel Iíve had at this point arenít really present, and Iím a fan of the aroma on this. Itís nice and crisp and clean. The flavor is pretty good. The Belgian malts and spice are there, but not overpowering. The lemongrass and citrus rind really bring this one in. There is a little dusty barnyard piece to it that balances out well. The mouth feel is good. But a little off. The viscosity is good and there is a slight under carbonation. I would like this to be a little more effervescent. The aftertaste is tropical fruits and dusty lemongrass. I like it. I never thought Iíd say that about a tripel.

Pale yellow colour. Medium white head which stays quite a long time. Sweet flowery aroma. Hints of vanilla and caramel. Sweet flowery beginning. Caramel, hints of yeast. Sweet, flowery finish. Sweetness in the aftertaste. Rather medium bodied. Heavy palate. Quite sweet. Slightly alcoholy. Quite drinkable. Somehow memories about tasting this beer earlier were better than the beer itself now when writing this opinion.

ABV: 8.4% Best before August 3 - 2018.

Beautiful, tasty looking beer! Hazy, yellow with tiny bubbles racing to the top. Huge, four finger high, white, creamy head that leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: Caramel malt, belgian yeast, citrus, wheat, banana and vanilla.
Taste: Oh! So smooth! Bread, yeast, banana, caramel, citrus, spices and clove.
Mouth: As I said; smooth! Soft and creamy. High and smooth carbonation, almost creamy feeling! Dry ending. Very well hidden ABV!

This is an amazing beer!

And of course Brouwerij Bosteels should know what they are doing... The brewery was founded in 1791 and is still owned and operated by the same family, now its seventh generation!

This is what I call craftbeer! :)

Cold, itís like a hefe with banana notes. As it warms up it gets much more interesting, with funky cumin and coriander notes. Hazy yellow pour.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2016 Tap@SÝernes. Pours clear golden with some white head that quickly fades. Aroma is semi-sweet and biscuit with prominent coriander in a complex warm fruity manner. Taste is biscuit malty, with fruity notes and surprisingly dry, despite the sweetness in the aroma. Taste has balanced spices with coriander as the most prominent and some esters with banana flavor. End is fruity yet semi-dry with laid back bitterness. High drinkability.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Still working my way through the classics. Pours a glowing golden orange with a huge foamy head that quickly dissipates. Honey and biscuits on the nose with yeast and light cinnamon and clove notes. Very active carbonation with the same flavors above and a touch of mint. Great hoppy bitterness on the finish with honey, lemon and pepper. A great beer that lives up to the hype.
