downender (2538), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Nov 22, 2007 Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep gold colour with a decent, rocky white head and moderate carbonation. Aromas of yeast, coriander, mace, tropical fruit and grain. Flavour had plenty of sweet malt with more spice, honey and some herbs. The finish was pretty dry. very good. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 17, 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear golden with a massive off-white bubbling head. Effervescent. A sour fruit scent with a hidden sweetness. Tastes sweetly fruity with a sour body and hints of spice. Extremely foamy, maybe a bit too much with a full body. BossHossBikes (147), Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2007 Bottle thanks to Muenster. Blind tripel tasting with Allagash Tripel Reserve, Westmalle Tripel, and Chimay Cinq Cents with NachlamSie and Muenster. The pour is a semi-cloudy golden with a pale white head. The aroma is very spicy and smells of fresh green leaves with slight citrus to it. The flavour starts off with a caramel sweetness with some fruits, a combination of a pear, orange, and a little bit of lemon. Spices start to become a little more apparent as the brew passes. Caramel sweetness slowly creeps in the finish along with a nice mixture of a pear’s light citrus. This is really good. This tasting has proven to be difficult to rate next to each other. I’ll have to say I like this one as a close third in the tasting. muenster (339), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Nov 17, 2007 In a blind tripel tasting with NachlamSie and BossHossBikes. Pours hazy gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is full of awesome spicy notes, and some sweet juicy fruits. Flavor is very much the same, a very nice spicy/fruit dance leads to a finish that is only mildly warm, but mostly dry. Tripels are amazing. adrian910ss (1395), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 15, 2007 On draft at Zeno’s. Pours a clear light honey golden yellow with a medium white head. Perfumy aroma with banananotes. Taste is fruity with hints of cotton candy, candied malts and banana. Slight perfumy aftertaste. Perm (151), Tryon, North Carolina, USA Nov 12, 2007 A fantastic example of the Tripel style. I’m intrigued by the 17th-century recipe making use of oats, barley and wheat.
It pours a beautiful golden color that’s fun to look at, and is *quite* bubbly besides. The nose is incredibly rich: apricot, wheat, snow peas, coriander, Chinese 5-spice powder, and a wee bit of banana.
The taste brings on a touch of toasted sesame, and the spicy bubbliness keeps on coming.
Not an every-day beer, definitely a special-occasion, rich, rich beer. Thick, even. It would go well with Vietnamese cuisine (think light, but spicy, noodle-bowls with peanut sauce), but it loves it some balsamic peaches, and also is very happy with romano, ricotta, and a good whitefish like skate. I think this has become my favorite Tripel. An amazing beer. Pwn3d (1040), Manhattan, New York, USA Nov 11, 2007 Updated: Jan 23, 20081PT 9.4oz bottle. This sucker poured the most incredible head i have ever seen. So much head that the enticing amber body with bits of debris had trouble escaping. Nose is spicy and floral with faint notes of sweet apple. 8.1% practically unnoticeable. Bubbly acidic mouthful with a banana spice grassy finish. Balanced and fantastic, one of my favorites. Prcaus (159), New Jersey, USA Nov 10, 2007 Bottle Eulogy Tavern in Olde City Philadelphia- Pours a Amberish coloring with sweet floral aromas and tastes were of noticable fruits and malts.
