4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
330 ml bottle. Good artwork. Pours cloudy yellow with medium white head. Wheat aroma with notes of lemon. The taste is amazing! A bit roasty, caramelly, lemony, and just the right amount of sweetness. The 8.4% vol are not detectible at all!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: lig golden straw, weak head and no lace. Pours with lots of gas. Thick yeast lees present. Very fresh funky lifted nose. Citrus and spice dominate. Might have Brett. Lemon lift is enormous. Very dry, fresh, not sour and low to moderate bitterness. Cloves, high carbon did oxide. Banana, estery almost sweet mid palate. Lots of flavor and freshness. Balances the alcohol.
I’m just struggling with the style and mix of flavors. Really interesting beer. It’s just not for me.

33 cl bottle@home in trappist glass. Approx 8 degrees C. Pours hazy dark yellow with large white head. The Champagne of Beers! I have long regarded this as one of the great beers in the world. I haven’t had one since I began rating, so I was really looking forward to this bottle. And I was not disappointed! Effervescent in a way I do not really find in other beer - hence the Champagne comparison. Complex aroma of yeast, harvesting and citrus. Taste of wheat and oat - almost with the sweetnes of hefeweizen, yet its own and with a clear, dry maltiness in the aftertaste..No booziness despite high ABV, this is so fresh and drinkable that you do not feel it till you stand up - so be careful! The commercial description is not far off the mark in this case - this is the Tripel which stands out among its peers!

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle with expiry date 12.03.16. Very pale, clear, rocky head that does not stay long. Aroma is not very fruity, with some spices (coriander, clove) and alcohol. Slight resemblance to dry white sparkling wine. No sweetness, slight bitterness mostly from alcohol. Lively carbonation. Disappointing, does not offer much.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle conditioned. First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley. Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.
