COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
First brewed 1996; claimed to be based on a recipe from 1679 which used wheat, oat and barley.
Tripel Karmeliet is a very refined and complex golden-to-bronze brew with a fantastic creamy head. These characteristics derive not only from the grains used but also from restrained hopping with Styrians and the fruity nature (banana and vanilla) of the house yeast. Aroma has hints of vanilla mixed with citrus aromas. Tripel Karmeliet has not only the lightness and freshness of wheat, but also the creaminess of oats together with a spicy lemony almost quinine dryness.

750 mL bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a golden color with a two-finger head that has good retention and nice lacing. Aroma is citrus, banana, clove, bread, and spices. Taste is sweet with citrus, malt, and bready flavors and ends with a little alcohol warming.

Une bière blonde qui séduit le plus grand nombre : rondeur et parfum sont au rendez-vous pour cette bière accessible. Amertume moyenne, belle couleur et belle effervescence. Céréales et épices au nez. Cette bière a toujours du succès...

33 cl bottle@home in trappist glass. Approx 8 degrees C. Pours hazy dark yellow with large white head. The Champagne of Beers! I have long regarded this as one of the great beers in the world. I haven’t had one since I began rating, so I was really looking forward to this bottle. And I was not disappointed! Effervescent in a way I do not really find in other beer - hence the Champagne comparison. Complex aroma of yeast, harvesting and citrus. Taste of wheat and oat - almost with the sweetnes of hefeweizen, yet its own and with a clear, dry maltiness in the aftertaste..No booziness despite high ABV, this is so fresh and drinkable that you do not feel it till you stand up - so be careful! The commercial description is not far off the mark in this case - this is the Tripel which stands out among its peers!

Bottle with expiry date 12.03.16. Very pale, clear, rocky head that does not stay long. Aroma is not very fruity, with some spices (coriander, clove) and alcohol. Slight resemblance to dry white sparkling wine. No sweetness, slight bitterness mostly from alcohol. Lively carbonation. Disappointing, does not offer much.

3/23/15 (Draft - Monk’s Pub Chicago) - Light golden pour, nice carbonation, poured with a full a rich head. Lemon, wheat and orange among the aromas noted. Taste was light and very smooth. Lemon and somewhat sweet fruit taste prevalent. Very smooth beer, mild carbonation and a nice ABV which is noticeable upon finishing this very good offering.
