3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours amber-red into the glass, with a fizzy, wispy head that fully reduces to a tiny ring of bubble lacing. The nose is of candied malt and alcohol. Flavors are malty, of burnt toffee, burnt toast, citric berry skins and medium peppering bitters, finishing with an alcohol warmth. The full body and oily palate make for a slick mouthfeel, a touch boozy, but misses the mark on traditional characteristics of grapefruit, orange or other citrus contingencies. Not a bad brew at all, but not quite the Impy IPA I was expecting from one of the brewer’s most popular offerings.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is a very dark and very highly alcoholic beer that is hoppy and full of flavor. It is rich and considered one of their best.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours clear amber with a thick and frothy pale buff head. Strong, hoppy aroma is mainly woody with some resin tone and malty and citrus undertones. Woody hops dominate the flavor somewhat, though there is plenty of room for grapefruit and sweetish malt to share the gustatory stage. Texture has good body and fizz a-plenty. Ooh baby baby, a good IPA!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 14, 2014 Nice and smooth. Somewhat lightly hopped for a double ipa. Still easily drinkable and keep finding myself ordering it again and again.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at 5 Church Restaurant in Charlotte, 11/19/14
I wasn’t too impressed by this one. It seemed like a flawed example of the style as well as a slightly overly boozy one. This isn’t a horrible beer or anything, but it was one of my least favorite new DIPAs I have tried recently. I definitely didn’t order a second.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Serving: Draft at Texacali Taco & Tequila Bar. It pours a deep red color with a thick light tan head. The nose is on the malty side for the style. Maybe a little pine in there. The flavor seems to be weak on the hop side with just a little bit of piney bitterness, but plenty of caramel, toasted malt, and a touch of booze. Not a bad beer by any means, but certainly not an IIPA.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a slightly hazy, dark amber/light brown with a generous off-white head.
Light malt aroma.
The flavor is lightly sweet. No hops in the flavor or aroma anywhere. Nothing going on here resembling any sort of IIPA. Thin.
A Strong Ale of some sort?
