Bottle shared at Smoke and Barrel, as the highlight of Government shutdown beers, day 2. So, when I typed shutdown, my iPad typed "shitdown," and maybe that’s more appropriate. Clear very dark maroon color, beige head. Aroma of vanilla, coconut, nutella, milk chocolate, wow! Taste is smooth rich whisky, vanilla, dark fruit, nutella. Another wow! This beer is way more complex than the trivial nature of our Congressional pseudo-leaders, and far more palatable than speaking to Republicans. Delicious.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2013 Nice brown pour with a medium brownish head. Flavors of roasted nuts, sweet bourbon, vanillia beans, toasted oak, maple, dark agave nectar. This is really a nice beer.

Bomber purple wax from listermans. Pours dark brown with massive creamy slight tan head. Nice roasted nutty vanilla nose. Bourbon wood and sweet carnival nut taste. Well done! Better then grey monday

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2014 750ml bottle, shared by brew3crew. Hazy, kind of caramel brown body. Light khaki head. Some dots of lace. Nice sweet hazelnutty nose; white cake. Some light vanilla, tannins, little wood and spice notes. Bigger body. Light carbonation, dry texture, smooth and easy drinking. Light alcohol heat in the finish. Really digging this barrel-aged brown ale. Nice toasty malt, light hint of cocoa. Good stuff. 8/4/8/4/15

Re-rate, on tap during the recent Pappy Chickow release in spring 2014: Taster. Apparently this is the original release, aged for about a year. Dark brown color. Thin khaki head. Good thicker lace. Amazing nose on this. Cookie dough, chocolate, cinnamon spice, hazelnut. Very tasty. Bigger body. Smooth, crisp, lighter carbonation. Lightly slick finish. Moderate to bigger sweet taste, moderate bitter. Alcohol in control, barrel is very well-blended with the beer. Very awesome stuff.

Top secret 22 oz. bottle shared by b3shine at DLD- thanks again, Beau! Pours a hazy brown color with a small beige head. Notes of raisins, caramel, brown sugar, cotton candy, nuts, and hazelnut syrup, like the kind I’ve seen my wife put in her drink at a coffee shop. Bourbon barrel notes complement but don’t overwhelm the big sweet malty notes in this. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a syrupy sweet mouthfeel. I liked this but in a small dose.

Growler sample. Pours a hazy brown color with a small creamy beige head. The aroma is sweeter malts, hazelnut, bourbon, vanilla, caramel and hints of chocolate. The flavor is much of the same; sweeter caramel malts, hazelnut, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, some wood and a very light bitterness to the finish. I wish there was more of this because it was very tasty and should get spread around a bit.

Growler sample shared by brew3crew. Poured a clear brown color with an averavge frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted sweet bourbon, chocolate and hazelnut aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy chocolate, nut and sweet bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Complex standout brew.

Draft to taster. Looks good; dark brown with foamy beige lacing. Smells and tastes good too; like the base, but with a nice bourbon influence. First-class!
