22 ounce bottle
Picked up at Party Source this was a nice brown ale. Taking a more American approach to the style it eschews sessionability in favor of going big. The result is something to take your time with; I look forward to hopefully trying a few variations in the future.
Aroma / Appearance - The inky brown base is much thicker than the average brown ale which is not surprising given the high gravity. Slick legs crawl down the sides like rain in a heavy storm. Coffee, rich baking chocolate, and an oaky bitterness pair well with each other while hanging in the air like a late morning fog.
Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel is carbonated with a chocolately texture. Heavily malted it tastes like melted cocoa poured into a glass of artisanal coffee. The only weakness is that it feels big for the sake of big. This could be helped with either more depth or perhaps less ABV. Regardless it is worth picking up if you are in southern Ohio.

Bottle, sent to me by b3shine and shared as the ninth taster in our mini festival of Beers Of Fall. Dark cola-ish brown, beige head of dense foam. Sweet nutty and bready aroma. On the palate there is a nuttiness and sweetness (vanilla?) that captures hazelnuts for me instantly, and the brown bread base is massively appealing. Big bodied and sweet, but with a flavour profile that holds massive appeal for me. Thanks Beau!

Government shutdown day 2. Draft. Murky briwn, like the workings of Cingress. Aroma of slightly boozy butterscotch. Taste us boozy milk chocolate, rich Butterfingers. Much more palatable then partisan shenanigans.

Bottle. I’d been putting off drinking this for a while just ’cause "Hazelnut Double Brown Ale" doesn’t sound all that good to me, but I give credit for someone doing something other than another IPA or trendy style, so good on ’em. This has a sweet, candy-like aroma. The drink is even and smooth to start, but finishes with that same interestingly sweet, yet somehow unique candy ending. Would go great with some Nutella. 3/28/13. Sampled during CBC 2013. Brown pour with a nice khaki head. Rich hazelnut aroma, a bit sweet, maybe a little artificial. Nutty hazelnut flavor, a touch sweet, vanilla, some chocolate. Not bad.
