3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2/05/2014: Triple Digit Coconut Chickow... I likie Chickow and love coconut, but I was not a huge fan of this beer. The coconut does come through in both the aroma and flavor, but the beer is too sweet. All of the nice roasty, nutty characteristics of the base beer are drown out by the sweetness. There is also a strange fruitiness (papaya or pineapple) that has been introduced that doesn’t fit at all. I wonder if they used sweetened coconut or something when brewing this which has caused the problem. Toasted raw/plain coconut would have been way better. To be honest, Chickow is great as it is and I’ve only had 1 or maybe 2 treatments of it that I thought were as good or better than the original; why mess with a good thing?! Draught (sample) at Listermann Tap Room in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rating #6 for this beer.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft pour during Ohio Brew Week. Pours a dark brown with a ring of beige foam. The aroma has huge coconut influence. Major tropical fruit sweetness with some milk chocolate. Proprietor’s who? Way better. I nearly came when I sipped this beer. So fucking good!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the taproom for Chickow! day. Looks like chickow... slightly hazy brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is sweet coconut and some fruits... with the slight nuttiness there also. Flavor is super sweet, but the coconut really cuts through it all and shines. The nuttiness works well in conjunction with this. Very nice variant.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2014 Draft sample at Listermann Oktoberfest. Pours a cloudy chestnut brown with a small beige head that settles quickly into a ring. The coconut really pops in this one, and seems to complement the big Chickow sweetness better than others, forming well with the hazelnut, caramel, and brown sugar notes. Medium-bodied, with a chewy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. This was my favorite Chickow variant of the day, though to be fair, I did miss a few. Re-Rate: Pretty much just confirming what I said before. This is one of the best variants. The coconut is a great complement and really pops in the nose.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sweet nut, chocolate and coconut aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Balanced chocolate nut coconut sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Complex solid brew.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Taster on tap at the brewery during Chickow Day. Bigger body. Nice smooth lighter carbonation. Pretty creamy. Lightly dry in the finish. Awesome light chocolate, coconut milk, hazelnut, toasted malt and toasted coconut flavors. Clear brown color. Little khaki head, nice lace. Moderate sweet, light bitter, very light hint of the alcohol... Great super long coconut aftertaste. Probably my favorite from Chickow Day... More balanced than the vanilla cask was, I think. Awesome.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft sample at Listermann/Triple Digit. Pours a dark cola brown color with a thin beige film (the only version without much of a head). The aroma had chocolate, hazelnut, coconut, sweet malts. The flavor is very similar to the base beer with some integrated coconut notes. Works pretty well with the hazelnut, chocolate and everything else.
