Cask pour at Craft Beer Co. Darkish orange pour, medium carbonation. A soft floral note to begin the nose, tapering off into modest bitters and a touch of malt. Body is a tad waxy, but smooth and enjoyable for the most. Flavors are a bit underdeveloped compared to some of the great session brews I sampled on my most recent trip. Modest citrus notes enliven things, and there’s a leafy tea finish that I usually enjoy in bitters. But something about it felt a bit perfunctory.

On tap at Akkurat. It had a light taste of yeast and flowers. Similar taste, a bit mild but easy to drink.

Aroma: The smell has honey and peaches in it. Some sour grass.
Appearance: The beer is clouded pale amber, a white rather firm head that leaves no lacing and no curtains.
Taste: The taste is mostly fruity, apricots, lemon, some peel bitterness at the end.
Palate: Little carbonation, watery and with a small body, but rather refreshing a slight dry finish.
Overall: A lawn mower bitter? This beer was a real ale version and claimed to be only 3.8%, and for such low ABV it was not at all bad.
Note: Cask at Oliver Twist. Reviewed 2011-09-14.

Bottle Conditioned. A gusher. Light brown colour. Quite a strong carbonation. Flavour is impaired by the gas but a light malty flavour comes through. Slightly metallic aftertaste.

A beautiful sunny afternoon on Friday 7th September 2012 saw my father and I join in R.A.T.2012 (Rail Ale Trail part 2). Split between three bars along the Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury railway line: they had over 50 different beers to try: this was one of them. Half-pint, gravity fed in the fest tent behind ‘The Odfellows’ in Shifnal. Light amber, golden brown, you choose: a white head tried to sit on top, but failed to stay around too long. Not too sure how this became CAMRA Champion Beer a few years back as it wasn’t any better than other beers on the day I tried it. Nice blend of flavours with the hops foremost in the smell and taste stakes. Well balanced and a pleasant enough session beer but nothing to set it apart from the rest of the field.
