3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
[Cask at the Nags Head, Reading] Pours deep red-brown, small frothy cream head. Sweet malt and lots of chocolate to start with, then blackberries and a little earthiness. Some smoke in the finish. Overall this is possibly a little on the sweet side for my liking (and I don’t often say that!). Still, not bad at all, a good depth of flavour and reasonable complexity.

3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Handpulled cask at the Express Tavern, Kew Bridge. A very dark beer; almost black with a hint of red. The aroma is like sour chocolate as is the taste. The alcohol comes through very strongly and it is hard to believe it is only 3.8%. Not a typical mild but a good drink.
