Cask: Special - JDW Spring Festival, 2011
This new, American pale-ale-style beer has been brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. It is pale in colour, with bold, fruity, citrus aromas and a touch of malty sweetness in the flavour, developing into a bitterness which lingers in the mouth, right through to the clean, dry finish.

Cask conditioned in Brewery Tap, Shefford. Deep amber with moderate head. Grapefruit on the nose and a pronounced hop/grapefruit bitterness on the palate. A nice long, bitter finish. Very enjoyable and my kind of beer.

[Cask at Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Gold with a thick white head. Stacked full of flowers, lemon and hop resin. Light and refreshing and yet still rich and satisfying at the same time. Superb balance of sweetness and bitterness. Excellent beer, great example of the style.

Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours clear gold with a filmy head. Subtle malt aroma, hay and straw, light malts. Lightly sweet flavor, a bit of corn and hay, crispy malts, delicate straw and grass bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish with some earthy bitterness in the throat, with a dynamic malt character. The first impression I get from this beer is nothing special but the complexity comes out a bit as I drink it. Quite nice.

Cask Conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton. A golden beer with a white head and lacing. Lovely citrus notes in the nose leading to some spicy prickly hops in the mouth. A touch of sweet toffee late on on the aroma. It’s nice.

Hand pulled cask at the Man in the Moon (JDW) Stanmore. Gold with a lively white head in tip top condition. Great citrus hops are spoiled by a hint of cardboard and harsh toffee/caramel. Maybe I might have been more impressed if I had not been sessioning Hawshead 5 Hop in the previous pub! I must try this again during this festival.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white head. Fresh, fruity, bitter orange, satsuma with a refreshing bitterness. Good and pleasing hops and a beer that saved my whole day. Good stuff.
