A Mes rate: Bottle at the Struise Farm during Urbain’s Post Zythos Struise Tasting.
Thanks to the American folks for this one. Thick dark amber colour with no head. Dark fruit, a ton of chewy sweet malt, heavy caramel and a little on the sickly side. Hop presence has all but subsided and I feel this was just about over the hill. Still a good beer though.

Unfiltered burgundy. Buoyant, jagged ring of dirty-white bubbles. Sweet aroma of brandy steeped plums and bourbon cake. Touch of musty wood and vanilla beans. No apparent oxidation. Loose, soft prickles of carbonation. Satiny body. Fairly dense on the palate, initially, but brightly adorned with clean and understated bourbon. Swift upsurge of firm tannins complements the silken brandy-drizzled toffee flavors and also displaces the mushy fruitiness and weighty sweetness. Well-developed cakey malts act as a thickly textured pillar to the light acidity which attempts to lighten the body. The body’s silkiness flourishes at room temperature as the prickly carbonation dissipates. Vivid tobacco flavors lessen the alcohol and lightly medicinal aspects. Finishes everlastingly thick with lush malts, along with a deeply enticing tandem of vibrant toasted-wood and gripping caramelized sugar. A wee bit hot, but the bourbon is delightfully relaxed and polished, which allows these lovely malts to shine brightly. Fun stuff.

Tap @ 2004 Toronado Barley Wine Festival. Hazy brown color with a mix of wheat and dark malr flavors. A nice combination.

Huge malt bomb that just explodes on the palate. creamy caramelised malt mouthfeel and mid palate. light bread and candy characters with good balancing sweetness.

Brownish color with off-white head. Grainy smell with slight sweetness. Caramel malt taste that was very smooth. Another bock from GABF.

GABF 2004. Brown in color, lightly cloudy, with a large, frothy head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, molasses, toffee, dough, and earth. Very nice flavor balance - the perfect mix of caramel malts and the slightest touch of orangey hops. Sticky mouthfeel, very chewy. Pretty darn good.
