Nik925 (149), California, USA Aug 18, 2008 Great malt flavor, appearance, carbonation, palate are all on target. Good balance of hop bitter and flavor to the strong malt. Dryer than most, (way to many brewers would have produced this with the same amount of sugar and 5 to 6% alcohol). Schultsc (414), Henderson, Nevada, USA Jun 21, 2008 On tap at the brewpub in Berkeley. Dark mahogany brown with a thin light tan head. Strong coffee aroma with slight malt sweetness, some caramel and fruity hops. The flavor is surprisingly dry--pleasantly so. with initial hops bitterness alongside roasted malt characteristics followed by some roasted grain bitterness/astringency. Nice light body in which the alcohol is very well integrated and thus quite hidden. rayOfBeer (260), El Cerrito, California, USA May 21, 2008 Poured from tap at Triple rock brewery a dark hazy brown with tannish medium sized head. The aroma was somewhat herbal with hints of coffee, tea and some roast. Flavor was a strong earl tea, sweet toffee, malt, and some soft roast coffee. The finish is bitter and has a good malt prescence in the mouth Ramenen (343), San Salvador, El Salvador Apr 14, 2008 Drank it on tap at the brewery. Pours jet black. Medium bodied ,very ashy and smoky. ABUSEDGOAT (1914), California, USA Mar 27, 2008 Draft at Alembic. Black colored, light tan head. Aroma is rich grapefruity hops, chocolate, some roast and caramel. Hops dominate the aroma though. Body is medium to light, some chocolate, moderate grapefruit, moderate to low bitterness. Promising aroma, but after that I lost interest.
