I rated this a while back, and I just now found my notes: "Great pour. Rich chocolate, earthy mushroom. Flavors work well together. A bit unusual."

On tap at the brewpub. Pours with a deep brown to near black body with a resilient tan head. Aromas are earthy, chocolate, coffee and light umami. Flavors are earthy, bitter, umami, smoke, oatmeal, cereal, and light maple. A bit of a lingering bitterness. Medium bubbles, medium dry.

Draft. Mahogony beer with a cream colored head. Malt aroma. Malt and craamel flavor with light roast, light nuttiness, and light pine. Medium bodied. Light chocolate and malt lingers with light roast, light nuts, and light pine.

joeneugs (3189) - Livermore, California, USA - APR 30, 2011
On cask at the PP Carlsbad Real Ale fest. It pours dark brown with a khaki head. The aroma is earthy and chocolaty. The flavor is roasted malt, some brown and chocolate malts with a distinct earthy finish that dries it out a little. Medium bitterness in the finish.

marcus (6436) - Sacramento, California, USA - APR 16, 2011
On tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a short beige head and a treacle aroma. There is a subdued roasted malt flavor with a very dry finish. A nice porter, but the mushrooms were undetectable.

Deep brown with a fizzy white head. Earthy mild chocolate and roasted grain aroma and taste with some nice caramel and subtle mushroom notes.
