A: The pour is quite nice to look at: dark, dark brown (bordering on black) with a nice tan head on it. S: There are certainly some sour cherry notes, but overall, it is more towards the bourbon and the oak--which are very prominent. A bit of chocolate and vanilla as well. T: The oak is very upfront and there is quite a bit of chocolate, vanilla, and cherry as well. All nice flavors, in fact. Perhaps a bit sharp, with some alcohol bite, however. M: Somewhat light in body, but not really thin, either. Sort of dry and sharp in terms of carbonation. D: One of the beers I actually liked more at this year’s Sour Fest. Perhaps not totally within the theme, but a nice beer.

Sample at stone sour ale fest 2010. Dark brown pour, light tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate, cherries, tart, oak, bourbon, tobacco, and slight vinegar. I enjoyed it, quite interesting mix of styles.

Very interesting, others seem to like this more than me. This in my mind was probably the worst beer I had all day. I missed out on having the drakes frankonberry that a lot of people loathed. Pours black with a tan ring. Nose is awful, just plain nasty. Taste is like sucky rotten cherries, blech.

On tap at Stone Sourfest. Pours with a black body and a fading tan head. Great nose of vanilla, bourbon and cherry. Taste is bourbon, ash, tobacco, sour and wood. Very earthy flavors.

Tap @ Stone Sour Fest. Was hoping this was gonna come close to Black Cherry Bomb, this wasn’t the case. Though the beer was pretty tasty it didn’t come close. Pours a lightly hazed deep coffee brown with a small beige head. Nose held some bourbon soaked oak with a touch of tart vinous notes. Lightly tart on the palate.

It poured like most other stouts but with very little head at all, nose was heavy on the bourbon and hints of cherry and plum. Taste was dominated by the bourbon, which didnt pair well with the bugs/sourness. Cherries were in the background, the combo of bourbon barrel with bugs made it almost vinous, and just not that good.
