4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Smells like honeyed barley malt, wet hay and Belgian candy and coriander. Hazy amber color. Sweet but in a good way. Balanced with some spice and hop bitterness. Medium body. A really good beer.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 February 2nd, 2013 - Voodooís Grand Cru is a complicated beer, in that kind of polite epithet thatís said with a slow drawl and hesitation. The smell is modelt fruity with red grapefruit, pomegranate and cranberry, painted on a canvas of a regular, deep maltiness. Iím attracted to what I find here, and secretly hope the flavor is more of the same, but it gets stranger with a sip. The palate is extraordinarily sudsy, masking quieter complexities that might be lurking around the brew. The flavor journey starts with mild berry sweetness, caramel malts, and a soily sweetness, like roasted carrots. Then the velvety soft palate tapers off, revealing more marshmallow and yam sweetness, harkening back to the clumsy American Thanksgiving culinary classics of my youth. But the aftertaste is warped, mixing sweet with butter, and developing an unpleasant off-taste. A lighter alcohol touch lets most of the flavors shine through unrestrained, but that aftertaste keeps interfering with my satisfaction. So close, yet so far.
March 15th, 2013 - Hereís my second go at Triple Voodooís Grand Cru, this time at the San Diego Epic Beer Festival. Even from the small, polluted taster glass I get clear notes of malt, apple, banana and clove - a cluster of esters straight from the top. The palate seems light given the flavor, and much lighter than other Grand Crus (like Rodenbach, but what does "Grand Cru" even mean?) The flavor is also ester rich: apple, grape and banana, though these flavors donít linger long. I like it here in this small glass, and it stands out in a crowd for itís brief strength.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Caramel in color, a bit dirty, small sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Dull spicy nose, heavy tho, but not sharp.   Seems like gingerbread.   Strong malt body up front, sweet, with an assertive yet dull
ginger snap cookie like presense.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   While not very heavy, its pretty smooth.   Finishes with some fruitiness, dark pitted fruit, and the ginger snap cookie I got earlier.   Very
different, yet entertaining.   Doesnít come across as Belgian in any way, but thats okay.   As it warms it becomes a bit more dull, er flat in terms of spices.   Different, but not bad.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A finger of head on an opaque, medium straw colored body.
The aroma is barnyard, hay and alcohol.
The taste is malty with hardly a hint of bitterness. A little booze and muddled lemon and cinnamon.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation and medium body.
A nice ale with good flavor and smell.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Church Key in San Francisco during Beer Week 2012. Pours cloudy reddish amber with a small white head that fades slowly, leaving slight lace. On the nose, there are tart notes of pear and apple paired with malts and spice. The flavour is sweet with lots of fruit, honey, pear and berries, paired up with woody, spicy notes. The finish is long and malty with fruit and a huge banana note. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice fruity Belgian style ale. It is simpler than I would like, but drinkable. 2012-02-16

If they regard this as their Grand Cru, iím afraid to taste anything else in their product line. Bottom line itís just plain weak, wish washy and unsatisfying - starting with itís thin head, right up to itís oddly unpleasant bitter aftertaste, itís a beer to be avoided. closest thing i can compare it to is cold tea.
