willblake (1919), Long Branch, New Jersey, USA Jan 7, 2007 07.01.07 Princeton. As is my Eagles playoff gameday tradition, I took a quick run out to Princeton for a few sips at my favorite brewpub. I was surprised to see this one still around since it was tapped on New Years Eve and I figured it would have been gone by now.
It’s a dark cherry wood color with no head and nothing resembling activity in the glass. Some vigorous swirling seens to encourage some oxygenation. Spicy aroma is savory and rich, a bit like an autumn potpourri with some dried fruits (citrus rind). Body is thin and slick, but seems fitting for the beer. Distant hops, somewhat citrus and a ate bite. Long lasting spice with lingering licorice notes and a slight astringency to the finish which does help to bring the beer together in the end. Oh yeah! What a run by Westbrook!!! 49 yards and three broken tackles for the score! E.A.G.L.E.S.! skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA Jan 2, 2007 rich aroma of nutmeg and lavendar. first sip is flat but sweet. body a little uneven, but periodic highlights of nutmeg and malt. smooth mouthfeel with a coating of thyme and anise. uniqueness of the spice and smoothness combined gives another point to the score. Thanks to "osbo" for a kind delivery. jcwattsrugger (3757), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jan 1, 2007 cask, tapped tonight-pours a retaining light tan head that laces with mahagony color. Aroma is cinnamon, ginger, dark/medium malt, secondary citrus. Taste is dark/medium malt-some sweetness, cinnamon, ginger, secondary citrus—hops bitterness, faint nutmeg. Mild carbonation. The recipe is Al’s, winner from the Princeton home brew competition, brewed by Tom Stevenson. Nicely done!
