Dark brown frothy pour with thick tan head and lace. Aroma of hard coffee, and roasted malt. Semi chocoffee flavor dominated by coffee. A nice malt bitter finish. Medium bodied with smooth carbonation. A tad thin kept it from scoring a tad higher. A very nice beer.

pint at brewpub, Ok to good aroma, sweet, coffee, milk, sugar. Dark orangy brown color, good head & lace. Sweet bitter flavor. Lite body, thin mouthfeel, mild bitter finish, Easy to drink, had moments when I thought it would go over the top, but never quite did. Looked great, aroma was reall good too.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 elihapa (1487) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - JUN 7, 2009
On tap at Triumph in Philly. Aroma is mocha and coffee, very smooth smelling and sweet. Palate is creamy from the nitro carbonation, though not “full” by any means. Flavor was a continuation of the aroma, though a bit more subdued: there was dark chocolate and coffee upfront, leading into a roasted-though-sweet finish. Not a whole lot going on here, but a satisfying drink.

On tap at the brewpub, Philthy. Very nice pour, in a tall glass like it’s a milkshake. Thick and creamy pour, with an awesomely frothy head. Aroma could be sharper but still quite nice, coffee and choc. The mouthfeel is a delight, and the beer has a deep lactic quality to it that’s quite pleasing. I wanted more depth and complexity, but it’s certainly a winner as a more-than-sessionable stout.

GABF 2007. Coffee smell is thin like when you remove a used filter full of used coffee grounds from the coffee maker; nice roastiness, but not robust and kind of off. Flavor follows suit. Lactic sweetness in the finish is nice, and the coffee and sweetness linger long, but overall this was flat and not that impressive.
