sinkr (121), Lusby, Maryland, USA Mar 26, 2008 Draft->juice glass (tasting@brewery): Pours an average, somewhat lasting head atop of a hazy, brown body. Not much aroma in this tasting, probably because of the tasting apparatus (the juice glass). The duration is long, moderately sweet, lightly acidic and bitter. The body is medium, texture is alcoholic, and has average carbonation with a metallic finish.
This beer, while having an alcoholic texture, I had trouble tasting the actual alcohol, probably because it was very yeasty(?). I’d put this beer with a lot of Belgians that I’ve had in terms of its requisite parts, despite it having been on the lighter body side, versus a thicker, more encompassing body.
soyorganic (94), Denver, Colorado, USA May 31, 2008 Tap in Philly: Dark copper color with a slight smell of Belgian yeast. Heavy carbonation with a distinct banana flavor. Sweetness with a slight hop and earthy taste. Alcohol is noticeable. Solid beer. MrBendo (974), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Jun 28, 2007 Draft at Philly. Clear ruby/copper with a small head. Tastes of bananas/cloves, fruity pear, extra spicy. Very sweet brown sugar and toffee. Sweet finish. JB175 (1269), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 22, 2007 Golden color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet and very sugary with some citrus and sugar. Taste is sugary-sweet with some banana and a heavy alcohol flavor that really detracts from the beer’s overall drinkability. Disappointing. whaleman (2168), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 19, 2007 Draught snifter at Triumph Philly. Deep toasted-golden body. Aroma and flavor have qualities of maple, honey, dough and light cooked bananas. Comes across as considerably sweet and warm. Seems like the yeast weren’t up to snuff and quit early on this beer. A fair sipper as a dessert beer, but not particularly to my liking as an Abbey Tripel.
