COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Long ago in Bavaria, they made two kinds of beer: helles (pale) and dunkel (dark). If you think all dark beers are roasty and rough, you're in for a surprise. Bottom fermentation and extended lagering smooth out the rough edges so that anyone can slam a dunkel.

Pours dark with a 2 finger head. Aroma is fairly weak. A lot of sweet malt flavors, and something akin to rye on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

this poured a medium to darker brown with a beige head. Aroma was very light dark chocolate powder and medium toasted malts. Taste was a bit over carbed, lightly toasty some grassy german hops. Eh.

Draught at Olde City BrewPub: Aroma of malt, brown sugar, slight nuts, and dried leaves. Poured deep amber/brown in color with a small, creamy, tan head that lasted throughout. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Flavor is lightly sweet. Tastes of nuts, malt, and slight toasting. Medium body. Slightly dry texture. Soft to average carbonation. Nut and malt finish.

Draft at the Philly brewery. Pours a deep but clear brown with an off-white head. Aroma and flavor had some pretty nice malty bread-crust tones if you looked hard enough, but the beer was so over-carbonated that it mostly just reminded me of Alka-Seltzer. Not really enjoyable.

Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Malty fruit y apple tones, some bread y malt notes, light doughy yeast, and a sweet fruity caramel malt bill. Nice ale.
