1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20
On tap at the Philly brewpub. Pours a murky orange with a thick beige head. Sulfury sewer aroma with some smoke and tons of garbage. The taste is off-putting, nay, downright offensive to the tongue. Weird, awful vomit taste with lots of rot in the finish. I don’t like to hate on the locals, and I’ll give the dudes mad props for trying to brew this concoction, but this is all sorts of wrong.

Some smoked aroma. Golden coloured and a little hazy in appearance. Slightly rich on the palate. Bitter smoked finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at Philly. This is in the vein of a wheat beer with the yeast character, and not doppelbockish at all. Pours a deep very cloudy smokey brown with a nice full fluffy beige head. A roma is very powerful with the hefe yeast- tons of phenols which wonk well with the moderate smokeyness- campfire and smoked meats, lgiht banana esters and spome peppery clove and nice full sweet wehat and dark toasty malts- very complex. Flavor is smooth and somewhat sweet- with tons of earthk, phenol, smoke, woodiness, extinguished candle, clove banana and doughy wehat. Smooth and easy to drink. Loved it even though it wasnt quite what I had expected.

(11/10/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Philadelphia. Hazy orange-amber color. Aroma of smoked meat, lots of malt, some caramel and wheaty notes. Sweet malty flavor with smokiness, woody notes, plenty of caramel a bit of fruits. Rounded-bodied.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
GABF 2007. Smells are mostly malty sugars with a bit of yeasty wheat lightness mixed in. Flavor begins with a wash of malty fruits mixed with half & half (not quite fruitcake, maybe more like cherries over angel food cake and bread pudding). Finish is fruity sausage. Any smoked beer always tastes like meat to me, and I’m always kind of thrown off by it, but it’s not overpowering here. Weizen spiciness (clove, pepper) is all throughout. In the very end of the finish, the smoke becomes clean, without anything else lingering.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap at the Philadelphia location. Pours a clouded dirty amber-orange, with a thin rim in white. Noses in cold campfire touched cotton and orange juice. Quiet and incense-like. Flavor is intense and rich. Alcoholic. Bright smoke phenols mingle with weizen yeast bananas and clove for interesting complexity. A really nice, Bambergian smoke character. Phenol character dominates the profile. Smoke moves to a chipotle flare. I’d estimate the smoke grist around 25-40%. Not overwhelming, but well integrated with the yeast and the alcohol. Decent. Not amazing.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Philadelphia location. Cloudy light brown color with light head that doesn’t stick around for too long. Aroma is strong, smokey, and fruity. Imagine a nice loaf of banana bread thrown onto a campfire. The taste is complex and matches the aroma. Smokey, fruity (bananas) and a bit of a clove taste. Finishes fairly clean-- only the smokiness lingers. Quite an experience!
Why do they serve all their beers in the same glass? I like the logo and all but...

Golden amber with a nice creamy head. Roasted smokiness goes well with the sweetness of the beer. Excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft @ Triumph Philly. Golden in color with a thick and roasty aroma that has a hefty dose of smoke along with banana, citrus, and spice. Flavor is very much of a quality, sweet W-bock with a nice amount of smoke - it drifts from big raisins, banana, and spices to a roasty campfire. Good smoked.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Had on tap at the brewery downtown. Wow, great stuff. The aroma is smokey and fruit and spicy and everything all at once. It was smooth and fruit on the palate with a nice full body. I was very impressed with this beer. A complex taste is left on your palate.
