Dark caramel amber with a big fluffy tan head. Aroma is slightly vomity (caraway) with a hint of sweetness. It does indeed taste of rye... rather like a liquefied loaf of pumpernickel bread.

On tap in Philly. Really nice beer. Very nice poor with a foamy head. Flavor is bready and bold. Some sweetness and the taste of rye lingers. Dry finish.

On tap at Philly location. Darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma is of a pleasant rye grain that has a subtle sweetness and a bit of roasty smoky goodness going on. Flavor has a very nice bit of drier rye with some stout breadiness, darker fruit, and a bit of caraway. Nice feel and a plesant finish - goes very well with everything my wife and I ate. Not quite Jewish rye caliber, but dang good!

Very attractive aroma of rye, malt and fruits. Pours a dark brown color with a medium, light brown head. Good, rich and pleasant flavor of rye, malt and fruits. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Very well done.

Tap at Philly brewpub. Hazy mahogany color with a medium head and good lacing. Sweet grains and bread with a bit of smoke and a hint of caraway seeds.(The bartender told me to come back in a week or two, and the caraway would be much stronger). Finishes dry. A beauty.

GABF 2007. Mostly transparent, ruddy mahogany color with a tall layer of creamy beige head. Toasted caraway seeds, caramel malt, and freshly baked Jewish rye bread. The rye presence is exceptionally bold and strong, but I find the caraway seed spiciness to dominate too much. Light bodied, gently carbonated mouthfeel. The rye flavors actually come across more thinly than expected, and the spicy caraway seed flavor just explodes over the palate. I haven’t tasted a caraway seed flavor this intense since the top came off my spice shaker while seasoning some sauerkraut. Dark pumpernickel bread lingers in the final smack. Far too spicy; I’m really hoping that the spice character is intentionally added, and not just a by-product of the rye used during brewing. With more restraint, I could see this being exceptional.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Dogbrick (5993) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 27, 2007
Sample at the Princeton location: This interesting beer pours a dark brown color with a ruby halo. Medium beige head that has pretty good retention. Aroma of rye and pumpernickel bread (In German, pumpern means to break wind and Nickel means goblin - farting golbin?), plus some grainy malt. Medium-bodied with a strong rye character. Flavors of anise, malt and light hops are also present. The finish is bready with a lingering rye and hops aftertaste. Overall this is unique and very enjoyable.

12oz handbottle, courtesy of Dickinsonbeer. Thanks, Paul! Pours a hazy, dark cola color; khaki-colored head with patchy lacing. Awesome, rye bread and caraway in the aroma; total rye bread and nicely spiced. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: relaxed carbonation; excellent rye bread, caraway at mid-palate; just awesome grain character. Lengthy, rye bread and caraway in the finish. I enjoyed this much more than Triumph’s Jewish Rye (which also came from Paul). Great stuff.

Thanks David. Pours to a deep unfiltered brown body with a creamy tan head. Starts off with strong aromas of honeysuckle that morphs into a nice dark rye bread with caraway seeds after a couple of seconds. Strong rye bread flavors. Lightly tart, rye bready. Pumpernickel bread. Nice medium bodied palate. One must like rye bread to enjoy this one.
