Pours a deep brown that is almost black with a big creamy and lasting light tan head that leaves good lacing. Smell is dark roastiness with a very prevalent hop character making its way in the nose. They mix very well giving it a really nice unique, nice nose. Taste is dark chocolate roastiness, with a great vibrant hop character that gives it a fresh almost minty flavor behind the roastiness. Moderate to slightly bubbly mouthfeel making this medium bodied porter extremely drinkable. Definitely one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite porter. kkearn (1016), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours deep brown with ruby highlights, capped with a huge khaki head. Aroma is sweet chocolate malt at first, giving way to hop bitterness. Sweet chocolate malt flavor is accented nicely by moderately bitter hops. Really smooth and well balanced. decaturstevo (2010), decatur, Tennessee, USA

Aroma is very nutty, roasted grain with nice hop background. Big hop bite up front in flavor, mostly orange/citrus, fades to a burnt grain astringency, very metallic in the finish. Very thin, lite on the palate. Few tweaks away right now. Zinister (1206), Houston, Texas, USA

Pours a very murky dark brown with a rich mocha head with gorgeous lacing. Rich chocolate mocha with a nutty, hoppy nose. Flavor is big hops (which I love) with a great nutty, caramel and roasted malt finish. Nice mouthfeel and good carbonation. I certainly don’t consider this a typical porter...but I really enjoyed. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jan 18, 2008 12 oz bottle via john_adams2002. Pours a slightly hazy brown body under a one finger fizzy beige head that faded quickly to a thin film. Some light lacing remained. The nose is slightly grainy with some nutty and chocolate malt notes and a slightly metallic hoppiness. The flavor is heavy on the metallic hops up front, that fades to a cocoa laced roasted malt finish. Maybe a little thin in the flavor at times, especially as it warmed, which usually brings out more flavor for me. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with a watery texture and too much fizzy foaming carbonation. Overall, this was OK, but I’m thankful that I didn’t pick up that case of it when I was at the brewery a while back. SpringsLicker (2043), Tennessee, USA

Pours a clear dark brown with an average sized tan head.
Cocoa powder aroma.
A slight bitterness comes on right away, I think form the roast malt, rather than hop bitterness here.
Then it takes a shot at trying to invoke coffee and chocolate but doesn’t quite get there.
Thin palate. Average Porter, below average for the brewery. I’ll look forward to trying this again in the future for a re-rate.
