COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

The taste of this beer was surprising given how relatively light its texture and aroma was. You get a slight nip on first taste, with the hops making their presence felt. However, they go away quickly, and are smoothly replaced by the smoky malts that you expect. Another fine entry from one of my favorite regional breweries.

Bottle at home, from Wegmans Downington, 18/03/14. Black with a good sized tan head that retains well. Nose is roast malt, earthy hops, pine, toffee fudge, light herbal notes, faint metallic. Taste comprises, mineral bite, brown sugars, chocolate, toffee fudge, hoppy backnotes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweetish close. Solid enough hopped up porter.

an, another example of american-izing a beer by loading it up with a ton more hops than is necessary for the style.

Nice balance and good coca finish. Not as hoppy up front as I expected. Drinkable yet somewhat busy with flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Surprisingly thin brown, translucent pour, which follows through on the palate, just kind of thin. However, the flavor would suggest something a bit more full bodied, meaning this one tastes really nice. I was in the mood for a good porter on a cold cold night. Thanks Troegs!

Bottle. Pours a thin dark brown. Fairly mild flavor that isn’t too heavy on the roasted malts. Very drinkable and pretty good overall.

on tap at Brennans Bowery Bar in Buffalo. dark brown pour with a frothy foam head. Good creamy malt aroma with a hint of hops in it, some crisp citrus hops in the taste with a good coffee like chocolate in the finish. Great beer

Reddish with small beige head. Minty hop notes over mild roast aroma. Flavor has robust roast and chocolate and not nearly the hop presence that I got from the nose.

Pours deep deep deep red but I can still see some light through it. Foam is light tan. Nose is fruity danky, piney, citrus, earthy and resinous. flavor is chocolates, resins, pines, earth, and dank. Medium full body and wow the chinook really stands out. Pretty solid. A little arrogant bastardish.

Sampler at the brewery. Pours opaque dark brown with a frothy beige head and lots of lacing. Tastes like malt, alcohol, dull coffee, bready with medium hops. Medium body and low/medium carbonation. Faint smell of grains, coffee, malt.
