COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Pours a dark brown alomst black color with limited head and some white specks fue to unfiltering. Hops and malt in the aroma with some hop bite at first taste. Malt follows with some chocolate notes. Good porter in my book.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured and unfiltered dark reddish brown. Aroma of malts, chocolate and coffee but a bit hoppy too. Taste is sweet of roasted malts mixed with a little citrus hoppiness to it. very drinkable and quite enjoyable.

UPDATED: MAR 11, 2013 Solid porter. 12oz pour from bottle, unfiltered. Malty on the nose, bitter hop in the front of the taste. Thinner on the palate as most porters are, full of malt without being sweet.

12oz bottle into English pint glass, dark brown color with tan head. Aroma is hoppy for a porter (earthy citrus hops), roasted malt, chocolate milk and some coffee. Taste wasn’t as sweet as expected, bitter hops balancing nicely with the chocolate and roasted malt. Light body, low carbonation and lingering bitterness. Tastes like when porter meets IPA, and I like it. Refreshing and interesting.

Pours dark mahogany brown color with no head. Nose is actually hoppy with a sweet chocolate malt. Taste has some bitterness with complex malt and chocolate. Finish is dry and ends on chocolate bitter notes. A very different, atypical porter. Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours a dark brown with a brown head and aroma of roasted malt and fruits. Taste is sweet, of roasted malt, citrus, caramel, and hops with a dry, medium finish. Decent, drinkable porter that is different from the standard porter style

Bottled July 31/12 - Pour is dark mahogany brown with puffy thick tan head. Chocolate aromas, dark and milk. A bit of drying herbal bitterness. Body’s not bad, a little light. Overall nicely balanced.

This was a smooth porter with an enjoyable amount of cocoa on the palate. The aroma is roasty and a tad hoppy even. Thanks for sharing, OmegaX.

A nice porter. Thanks, Jon, for throwing one my way. Aroma is earthy, with roast, some chocolate, and citrusy hops. Pour was dark brown with a nice head. Taste is pretty similar with a decent amount of hop flavor, and a good kick of roast and chocolate. A bit metallic on my palate.

Reviewed 12/14/2012. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a very dark brown color with excellent opacity. It’s not perfectly pitch black, but it doesn’t need to be. The head fades quick, but still leaves behind some nice lacing. S: Fairly hoppy, with a strong flowery character. Dark roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee are present, though I kind of wish they were a bit stronger aromatically. T: Initially, there’s a pleasant wave of roasted coffee beans, before it finishes with piny hops and chocolate. I have a bit of a problem with how the hops finish the beer. It’s not that they provide excessive, clashing bitterness - I like the slight citrusy character they provide, even if there’s a slight balance issue between them and the dark malts - it’s that they come across as overly acidic. It’s one of the ’brighter’ porters I’ve ever had, coming across as almost refreshing instead of stoutlike. M: Creamy smooth, but also a clean finisher. Not dry, mind you, because the flavors do linger fairly well. I’d say the aftertaste is more pleasant than the initial finish. Carbonation is high like a lot of porters. O: It’s just okay. Granted, it’s five months old, so I’m not sure it’s fair to judge this as being a good example of a traditional ’robust porter’. I think I’d definitely prefer this one with the hops providing more than just an alpha acid assault. One of Troegs’ lesser beers, IMO.
