Dead Reckoning is unfiltered and weighs in at 5.8% abv and 53 IBU’s. It features Pilsner, Caramel, Chocolate and Roasted malts along with Chinook and Vanguard hops. “The outstanding taste and flavor of Dead Reckoning originates in the chocolate and roasted malts,” says John Trogner. “There is a nice hoppiness in the front of the beer, but the rich, smooth mouth feel is what really stands out.”

Bottle. Pours deep brown nearly black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is sweet and chocolate with some vanilla notes, slight roast and a bit of a toasted marshmallow character. Flavor starts sweet chocolate quickly picking up some roast and a hint of dark fruit before a lightly ashy finish, moderate bitterness. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Good porter.

Quick 6 West York. Favorite seasonal beer. Dark, smooth. Not a hop lover but the bitter finish in this one feels right.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Opaque, deep dark brown with a 2-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of cola, chocolate, nuts, raisins, pine and toffee. Taste of chocolate, pine, nuts, roasted coffee, roasted malt, lemon/orange citrus and toffee. Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation. Rather hoppy for a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Expectation: the brewer baffles me for unknown reasons and I tend to assume I’ve already had a ton of there stuff and in reality, I’ve only had three others. The high rating lead me to think this will be a good experience especially since I like the style.
Hardware: 12oz bottle (bottled on 8/21/13) into Le Guinness 2010
Nose: can’t really penetrate the huge head that required I use two glasses. I recall strong coffee notes but now I just get that over carbonated smell.
Sip: definitely strong roast and coffee notes.Slight lactose maybe or perhaps chocolate.
Taste: all kinds of bitterness
Misc: the second I heard a pop when I took the top off, I thought there would be a mess, but no mess except the beer itself. I think there is something wrong in here - it’s way too foamy for a porter and the smell is odd.
Conclusion: I will need to try this again from a different source.
PS: as it warmed it got better, but I still suspect a bad bottle or bad storing conditions from the store. I find it least likely that this is a bad beer.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown with orangish hues in the light and a thin creamy light brown head. Aroma is nutty, toffee, slight roastiness. Flavor is a nutty sweetness, with a light burnt roasty bitterness. Medium in body and rather drinkable. Lingering roasty bitterness. Very tasty.

Bottle. Hazy Brown Americano pour. Coffee, wood, cola, spice, raisin, caramel, pine. Hoppy and good carbonation that makes this porter east to drink. Caramel, coffee and pine throughout. Light sweet finish

Transfer from BA review on 5-18-12- Poured from bottle into pint glass Appearance – Pours a deep-deep brown almost pitch black color with a two finger tan head. The head has great retention. It eventually fades to give a nice level of lacing. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a sweeter chocolate aroma. This is mixed with lighter hints of caramel and coffee. Taste – The taste starts out a bit on the sweeter-maltier side. A caramel brown bread flavor meets the tongue. The roasty bready and caramel flavors persist to the middle of the taste where they are met with a cocoa and coffee flavor. The caramel then begins to fade. This ends up leaving a pleasant cocoa-coffee flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body is on the medium side for both creaminess and carbonation. The body could use a bit more thickness, but the carbonation is fitting. Overall – The transitions from sweeter to more roasty are nice in this brew. While not the greatest body it is easy to drink and makes for a good session porter if that is what you are feeling.

Dark brown pour with a tan head. The aroma is piney with some chocolate notes in it. The flavor has a mix of pine, roasted malt and chocolate. Very hoppy for a porter. Medium bitterness. Medium carbonation and thick mouthfeel.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass every time. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipates within about a minute and leaves a decent amount of foamy lacing. The smell was roasty and bitter coffee pervading through some light caramel, chocolate and oatmeal. The taste took those flavors and combined it wonderfully. There was a nice bitter coffee aftertaste that ended up leaving a dry finish. On the palate, it sat about a medium on the body with a quality that wanted to show a decent sessionability but kinda made me sip it. The carbonation was good for the style and for me as it was slightly smooth and creamy. Overall, I say this was a good American Porter well worthy of having again.
