Long toasty days, cool breezy nights and a splash of magic provide the inspiration for the Tröegs brothers’ dreamiest creation — Dreamweaver Wheat. Combining wheat with Munich and Pilsner malts, German Northern Brewer hops, open-top fermentation and a yeast strain that imparts hints of pepper, clove and banana, Dreamweaver Wheat is an unfiltered blast of spicy, mouthwatering joy.

Cloudy yellow. A mild wheat, slightly flat. Not strong enough for my taste. Not bad but it is not a great wheat.

Pale cloudy golden hue covered by a 1cm white head. Rather simplistic malt profile leaves a lot of room for the obvious banana yeastiness, paired by a strong soapy character. Tartish, oily and really dishes water reminiscent in taste. Wheat comes out gently, but it feels greasy through and through. Average carbonation, foamy texture, light bodied. Could be cleaner and more confident in its maltiness.

Sample at Old Dominion BF. Hazy straw color. Sweet, malt aroma and flavor. Malty wheat flavor. Good hefe.

Sampled at Old Dominion Brew Fest ’06. Classic cloudy yellow with a white head. Fruity, estery banana/clove nose. Flavor also has notes of banana, clove plus bubblegum, lemon/citrus and wheat. Moderately sweet. Medium bodied with somewhat lively carbonation. Not my favorite style but I found this to be quite good.

Bottle: Wit like straw color, hazy, thin sudsy white head, sparce lacing.   Wheaty nose, slightly bready, but nothing out of the ordinary.   Pale wheat flavor, clean, but not very robust.   Remains somewhat bready.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, but are nearing the thinner side (for a unfiltered wheat beer that is).   Refreshing, and certainly not very filling.   No real banana or clove that I detect, which to me comes across as more of the American variety.   Pleasant to drink... would love to try fresh.   Thanks to kramer17801 for the bottle!

Lightly hazed blonde with a thin white head. Pleasant bananas and cloves in aroma, with light solvent notes, but rather on the pleasant side. In mouth, a nice weizen, refresing malt, bananas and clovs, smooth, light bodied, and to style. Very classy. At the Mondiale, June 2006.

Slightly hazy golden-yellow with a decent white head. Strong aroma of banana, vanilla and grass. Surprisingly not tasty given the strong aroma. Yeasty and fruity (banana, peach). Oily texture with very little carbonation. Below average Hefweizen. As boring as a Postcard from Ottawa. Sampled at Mondial 2006.

A pretty decent hefeweizen from an american brewer, of all places. Nice and hazy body, medium fluffy white head (although I think I should classify it as a small, almost non-existant white head), where did all the bubbles go? Nice flavor, quite a bit darker than the usual hefeweizen, but still very good. Nice full round taste.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2008 Re-rate, 5/08: Quite nice. Have had this many times since the original, and this is a pretty solid bottled American-produced hefe. The appearance could be stronger as could the mouthfeel fuller, but the flavor and originality are solid. Original rating: Pours a hazy, slightly cloudy, but still not heavily bodied yellow color with a head far smaller than a traditional hefeweizen. Aroma was of bananas. Flavor was bananas, some cloves, shocking, was expecting an American wheat before the pour. A touch of citrus zing in the aftertaste, possibly from some hops. Very light mouthfeel was a turnoff, needs more body for a hefe.
