4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 mixmasterob (831) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - NOV 21, 2010Bomber courtesy of Pollack, big thanks. Dark murky brown pour with a nice thick white head. Super sticky lace. The head stuck around for the long haul. The aroma was loads up piney hops mixed with a chewy caramel sweetness, rich malts, and some dark fruit. Flavors were big and piney up front, the malt mixed in creating a candied hop flavor that was fantastic, just wonderful for the style. Mouthfeel was big and full, creamy, just perfect carbonation. Slightly sweet throughout but finished dry with a large hop presence. Wonderfully balanced, a definite top in its style. Huge thanks to Pollack for the bottle, great stuff!

Tap at ues pony bar. Pours kinda ugly cloudy brown. Nice nose of candy and dark fruits. Tastes of caramel, cookie dough, figs, earth, resin, and some floral notes. Dry on finish and not too sticky for barleywine. Slight alcohol warming which will carry me the 20 block walk home

22 ounce bottle into snifter; Spring 2011 bottling, 2 years old now. Pours hazy dark ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, apple, toast, light pine, brown sugar, orange rind, brown bread, orange zest, floral, grass, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of malt notes with a fair amount of hop presence. Taste of caramel, raisin, apple, toast, brown sugar, light orange rind, light pine, brown bread, floral, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, apple, caramel, toast, brown sugar, light pine, floral, candi sugar, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with a fair amount of hop presence; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, fairly slick, and slightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent American Barleywine at 2 years of age. Very nice balance and complexity of malt flavors with moderate hops; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Split Thy Skull event at Tatt Moms. Dark hazy amber pour. Slight foamy head. Similar to the strong high-hopped Nugget Nectar but even stronger and with some dark fruit and vegetable notes. The darker malts mellow out the finish a bit, but still big bad stuff!

Good barley wine. Heavy malt aroma and taste, but not overwhelming like others. Balanced with dark fruits, toasty bread, and slight hop bitterness. Good amount of lacing on glass and is dark brown in color with a tan fluffy head. Creamy mouthful. Would recommend to others.
