Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

Bottle. Pours a rich deep dark amber color with a medium sized light tanned colored head. The sweet smell of citrus hops meet the nose even while pouring, and upon closer inspection a light background of malt comes out. Lovely thick creamy body with a hint of sweetness. Very soft finish, and not nearly as much hoppy bitterness as I might like, especially given the aromas coming off the nose.

Bottle. Poured a clear copper color with a thin beige head. Nice floral hoppy aroma with some caramel hints. Flavor has a nice balance of hops and malty sweetness. Nice bitter aftertaste. A mellow watery mouthfeel. Very decent drinkable beer with nice flavor. Ambers are one of my favorite styles, but this doesn’t blow me away.

Pours to a dark orange amber with a 1.5 finger head. Good bit of hops on the nose. HInts of floral on the nose, but not as much citrus as expected. On the palate this is a strong beer -- good caramel flavor with a solid overtone of floral hops. A touch of mineral flavor also, but nothing to detrimental. Certainly a bit toasty as well. Smooth hoppy finish. Hardly much evidence of the decently high alcohol percentage.

Bottle from brentk56. Thanks! Nice darker amber pour with a thin head. The aroma is that of toasted caramel malts and some nice floral/earthy hops. A touch of wood too. Nice flavors of earthy hops upfront followed by toasted malts, light caramel sweetness and earthy woody hops in the finish. Rather dry finish. A very nice amber ale.

Draft @ Mad Mex: Gosh, this brewery is just really hit or miss for me. Duh, pours orange-amber with a very thick and aromatic head, like circus peanuts (the orange candy). Has the bittersweetness of ruby red grapefruit. Nice, sweet hoppiness to it, definitely drinkable, but smell is throwing me off. Almost smells like pixie stix powder.

Bottle. Pours deep clear amber, with a small beige head. Aroma of citrus, sweet malt, and bread. Taste was hoppy and heavy on the malt. Very flavorful and drinkable. Finish is lightly bitter. Very solid. Mouth is lightly carbonated and smooth.
