billdrinksbeer (18), Washington DC, USA Oct 28, 2009 Draft at Churchkey, but this was a cask dry-hopped with palisades hops. Light brown iced tea color. No head (probably due to the cask). Smells faintly resiny but also has some honey and sweetness. Very thin palette, piney hops and some floral/grassy notes on the back palette. Pretty good, but I wouldn’t necessarily say what I experienced is indicative of all of Hopback. phiconners (122), Massachusetts, USA Oct 27, 2009 Pours amber, bitterness comes through in the aroma. Nice taste, hops is very apparent, but it has a nice balance. A nice drinkable but flavorful beer. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Oct 27, 2009 12oz - A slightly sweet nose distracted me on the pour. The amber colored liquid produced a nice, inch thick tan head. The palate was solid, substantial flavors of wood, oily texture. I like this the best of the Troegs I’ve tried to date. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2009 2009-10-09. Dark amber body, small foamy beige head fades. Mild aroma of green leafy hops, touch of caramel malt. Flavour is lightly bitter, mild green leafy hops over smooth but modest sweet caramel malt, light toasty touches to the malt. Average plus palate is lightly carbonated. Decent, pleasantly quaffable but a touch muted overall. I suspect it has a bit more zip closer to the bottling date, but there is no best before on the bottle. Bottle from Premier Gourmet ditmier (1021), Boise, Idaho, USA Oct 7, 2009 2009 Bottle - Thanks dand645! - Pours a translucent amber with a ring of off white...aroma is caramel malt, floral hops, sweet dough...flavour is fairly tasty, bitter and grainy, with a sweet finish...bits of lemon zest and unappealing oily sour hops...good flavour out of this one with the one exception...I could drink a few of these... dand645 (64), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA Oct 1, 2009 good amount of hops in both the nose and flavor, nothing really special, but a decent little beer with not too much going on screigh (253), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 28, 2009 Pours a nice copper color. Aroma is of hops...good and promising. Taste is a bit tart, thin and not that enjoyable. One very bland but above average ambers.
mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA Sep 23, 2009 Rich, complex hop aroma, good carbonation, and ample hop lace promise a hop bomb. The flavor delivers deep, lasting hop presence, balanced between citrus and earthy bitterness, and finishes long with its dry hopping. The caramel malt does not quite offset the massive hop infusion, but the blend of hops can be admired on its own.
