Jblauvs (530), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Sep 6, 2009 Amber pour with an offwhite head. Citrus hops domiante the aroma with some sweet malt in the background. Flavor is bursting with piney hops and sweet caramelly malts. REally nice KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 5, 2009 Bottle. Thanks JB. Medium amber color with a thin, lacy head. Big citrus hop aroma with caramel and sweet amber malt. Nice malt flavor: slightly earthy, with rich caramel and swee malt, piney hops, and a strongly bitter finish. Big flavored amber with good hopping. I like it. Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Sep 4, 2009 Serving: Draft from a firkin.
Appearance: Pours a hazy, dirty brown with a small, creamy, light tan head. Great head retention and lacing.
Aroma: Decent pine hop nose, light floral notes, and some caramel malt aromas. Not as forthcoming as I was expecting from Troegs.
Taste: Very hop forward with strong floral and soap notes. Light pine notes lurk there as well. From the malt side I get light biscuit notes. Okay, but a little on the soapy side for my liking.
Palate: Low carbonation (to be expected from a firkin) with a medium, slightly dry mouthfeel. Medium, bitter finish.
Overall: The dryness gives it an almost airy mouthfeel. This one is decent and sessionable, but I would like to try it on tap as well.
Rebuy: Yes, but I want to try the regular draft and bottled versions. phaleslu (423), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 22, 2009 Draft. Pours reddish amber with medium off-white head. Hoppy aroma with some fruit, floral notes, and sweet malt. Flavor is more of the same, and very well balanced. Light body, bitter but not overwhelmingly so, and finishes with a crisp, clean bite. jport4087 (73), Pennsylvania, USA Aug 21, 2009 This is a great beer. Perfectly balanced with a nice finish. I can’t wait to pick more of this up on my next beer run. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Aug 20, 2009 12oz bottle. Apple red color with a lacy white head. Aroma is nicely hoppy and fruity. Flavors are well blended and quite delicious. Fruity, floral, just enough bitterness. DaSilky1 (1932), San Diego, California, USA Aug 18, 2009 Draft: Burnt amber, thin off-white head. Malty flavors with a hint of crisp hoppiness. Somewhat fruity flavors with stale dried pineapple and maybe a hint of apple. The maltiness overpowers the hops here as an amber ale should, but amber ales are soooo great. woo hoo. Pipper (225), Ohio, USA Aug 16, 2009 On tap at Bier Markt in Cleveland into pint glass. Nice dark amber color with a pretty decent off-white head. Floral and bitter hops on the nose with a bit of matly sweet background. Great bite working with juicy hops and bitterness. Went great with the mussels I was eating.
