Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

Ehhh...just didn’t do it for me. Pour was dark amber, little head or lacing. The flavor was heavy grapefruit with some caramel/toffee sweetness that seemed out of place. I just didn’t like it. Got even sweeter and more grapefruity as it warmed and the two flavors just didn’t "go" in my opinion.

Pours a nice dark amber color w/ a slight head. Light hoppy aroma, had a light taste with a bit of a pine in the after taste. Very drinkable, will definitely have again.

Tasting @ Capone’s: Poured a dark amber color with not a lot of head. The aroma was that of dirt and hops. The flavor had some sweetness like caramel with a nice balance of hops. Over all of our favorites at this tasting.

Very nice floral hop with a rich amber malt. This was highly drinkable and very pleasant. One of the better ambers I have had.

The beer has a slightly dark amber body topped off with a pretty thick white head. It has aromas of orange from what seems to be fresh hop. There is a very floral flavor with hints of green tea.

Bottle, thanks to TomDecapolis! Pours clear amber with a lacy off-white head. Medium-light body and carbonation. In both the aroma and taste, the pine and citrus of the hops battle the toffee and caramel of the malt. Neither one comes out a clear winner, but it’s a tasty draw. This is usually one of the ho-hum beer styles, but Tröegs does a nice job with this one. Can you say "Sessionable?" Sure you can.

I think I had a bad bottle. I’ll rerate after I have another. Poured dark amber with nice size off white head. Light aroma of malt. Very harsh alcohol taste. Some malt flavor to start but then the alcohol just dominated after a second. Undrinkable.
