Commercial Description:
Troegs HopBack Amber gets its unique name and taste from the HopBack Vessel in our brewhouse. Packed full of whole flower hops, each batch circulates through the vessel, creating a fresh hoppy aroma, spicy taste and rich caramel note that defines this signature amber ale.

I was excited to finally try a Troegs. Obviously, they make some well reviewed beers on this site. The beer poured a nice orange, amber with a decent head. The aroma was slightly citrus with ample hop smell coming through. The flavor was alright. Not as bitter as I was hoping for and the finish was quick. Reading the other reviews I’m going to try a couple of other bottles and see if I change my opinion. Otherwise, this was just an average beer for me. Drinkable, but average.

Bottle. Clear orange with a near medium head. Aroma of grass and citrus hops with caramel. Taste is almost spicy. Flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body. Too good for an amber. It should be upgraded to at least a bock. ;-)

12 oz bottle. A redish orange pour with little head. Smells of crisp clean citrus. Taste of hops, caramel, and a little spice. Good stuff.

Great beer. A sweet but hoppy taste that is well balanced. Citrus, hoppy aroma. Impressively full flavor. Not a thin or watery beer at all.

Bottle. Pours off-white, creamy, slow-disapating head. Grassy aroma. Hiints of carmel. Malty in the beginning with a strong, crisp hop finish. Very good beer. 5/3/08 - RERATE - This is what happens when you rate one of your favorite beers early. Time to revisit. This is one of my favorite "go-to" beers. It’s on draft all over. Any who, here are the notes. Pours a clear amber with deep red hues. Slightly khaki, thick foamy head. Great lacing and retention. Nose is grassy/earthy hops with a subtle bright citrus crispness. A good amount of caramel and toffee aroma. Medium watery mouth feel. A moderate caramel malt backbone with some hints of chocolate and light roast, which is accented well with a moderate earthy bitter and hop flavor. This hits you mainly towards the end and lingers well into the after. The back of the palate screams "More! More!" A very well balanced beer that lets you know it’s there without being all up in your face. One of my favorites.
