ealdent (44), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Sep 21, 2006 A very enjoyable amber ale with a delicious aroma and smooth finish. Strong caramel and hoppy flavor make a really good, though not unique, combination. Head dissipated quickly. SlowandLow (6), Connecticut, USA does not count Sep 17, 2006 Had this one on tap, decent US hop aroma slight carmel notes as well and amber red hughes. The flavor was somewhat better than I expected, the carmel grains in the aroma also came through in the flavor. Finishing rather hoppy and pleasent. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Sep 11, 2006 pours amber with a medium off white head. Aroma is fresh resinous hops and some malt. Taste is fresh hops, caramel, with a bitter clean finish. good. nick76 (2634), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 11, 2006 The aroma has caramel and lightly toasted malt with floral and citrus hops. The appearance is amber with a small foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma with the addition of mineral water. The aftertaste is lightly toasted malt and some bitterness. The palate is a little bit thin but overall it’s nice. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Sep 9, 2006 Pours clear deep copper / amber with a sturdy light tan head. Aroma has smooth citrus hops and some sweet malt that is almost like peach. There are some floral hops in there as well. Medium body with a prickly feel due to the carbonation. Starts with smooth floral hops with some citrus, the lightly roasted malt associated with an amber ale, but the hops are dominant. The finish joins the other flavors with light piney hops. This is the hoppiest amber ale I’ve had as well as being one of the smoothest drinking hopped up beers. Excellent beer. Parrothead (185), Ephrata, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 8, 2006 Pours a nice auburn with a creamy white head. I couldn’t detect much nose, and I expected to. Some caramel, malty toffee taste backed up by a good bit of hops, but not as much as I expected or hoped for. kenb (1100), Oregon, USA Sep 4, 2006 12 oz bottle obtained from Frumpty (thanks!). Pours a crystal clear amber color with a fast dissipating 3 in" head. Biscruity aroma, with some caramel, toffee and orange notes. Medium and well balanced with the hops coming out on top. Crisp finish, but not real dry, with lots of orange hops and caramel malts lingering in the aftertaste. Very tastey. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 3, 2006 Updated: Mar 1, 2007Here we go. This is one great beer. Lots of citrus hops in the nose and taste. Sometimes you forget about those special beers that just have the really crisp piney hops. I think this beer triumphs because it’s harmonious and balanced for its style, much like the Alesmiths, Three Floyds, and Bells. Obviously some great malt to back it up but I think that it’s comparable to many of the modern day pale ales. Still less malty and full bodied than an Alpha King but just as enjoyable. I think I found a solid beer to buy cases of in this state of stupid beer laws.
